Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC, ICD-O M8247 / 3) is a rare malignant primary skin tumor with epithelial and neuroendocrine differentiation. The neoplastic cells share many morphological, immunohistochemical and ultrastructural characteristics with Merkel cells of the skin. The diagnosis of MCC is rarely made on clinical grounds. Histological and immunohistochemical studies are usually required to confirm the clinical suspicion. This pilot study aimed at investigating the effects of low dose radiation on lens transparency in occupationally exposed interventional cardiologists and radiologists. Reimbursement of radiotherapy in Germany is mainly based on a certain fixed fee for treatment planning and patient set up in addition to payment per fraction. This applies to outpatient care for patients with public health insurance or private health insurance. Payment per fraction has a considerable influence on reimbursement of inpatients as well. The advantage of payment per fraction is the simplicity and transparency. The disadvantage is an inadequate reimbursement for new treatment modalities like hypofractionation or stereotactic body radiotherapy.

BACKGROUND To determine the efficacy of intravenous indocyanine green (ICG) as an adjuvant to TTT for hypopigmented choroidal melanomas. PATIENTS AND METHODS ICG kinetics in melanoma tissue were evaluated by taking standardized ICG angiograms in 28 eyes with small choroidal melanomas. In a prospective non-randomized analysis 12 eyes with hypopigmented choroidal melanomas (posterior to the equator with thickness </= 4.5 mm) were treated with the TTT standard protocol developed by an intravenous injection of 100 mg ICG in 10 ml aqueous solvent 2 minutes after starting TTT.
