The relationship between pulp calcifications and salivary gland calcifications

2014

Aim: Pulp stones are discrete calcified bodies found in the dental pulp. Sialolithasis is the most common salivary gland disease. The aim of the present study was to determine the relationship between the pulp stones and salivary gland stones. Material and Methods: 196 patients were randomly selected from the out patient department for the study. The periapical radiographs for all patients were evaluated for the presence or absence of the narrowing of dental pulp chambers and pulp canals. The intra oral occlusal radiographs were also evaluated to determine the presence or absence of salivary stones. The results were compared and analyzed using the Chi-square test ( p 0.001) and also between…

Ameloblastic fibroma: a rare case appearing as a mixed radiographic image

2014

Ameloblastic fibroma (AF) is a benign tumor of mixed odontogenic origin, which affects predominantly young individuals. AF appearing as a mixed radiographic image is very rare. This report describes a case of AF in a 12-year-old male identified during a routine radiographic exam for orthodontic treatment planning. The panoramic radiography revealed a well-defined multilocular mixed image located in the mandible between the roots of the left mandibular second premolar and first molar. The lesion was excised under local anesthesia. Histopathological analysis revealed islands of epithelial cells and columnar peripheral cells showing a nucleus in inverted polarization, interspersed with spindle…

The unusual evolution of a simple bone cyst in the mandible: a case report

2012

The simple bone cyst, as newly classified by WHO in 2005, is a lesion related to the jawbones. Therefore, it is not a cyst, since it is a cavity devoid of epithelial tissue. It is a rare pathology affecting the mandible more than the maxilla. Its onset occurs mainly during the first two decades of life, irrespective of sex. The purpose of our report is to exhibit the particular case of a 17-year-old male patient whose radiography showed an osteolytic lesion in his right mandibular body. Exploratory surgery and biopsy are performed showing a simple bone cyst. Since then, he is controlled through imaging studies, but presenting an atypical evolution, with its size increasing considerably with…

Reactive neurogenesis during regeneration of the lesioned medial cerebral cortex of lizards

1995

Abstract This study reports that lesion of the adult lizard medial cortex (lizard hipocampal fascia dentata) induces a short period of intensive neurogenesis which we have termed reactive neurogenesis; a cell proliferation event that occurs in the subjacent ependyma. Specific lesion of the medial cortex was achieved by intraperitoneal injection of the neurotoxin 3-acetylpyridine and proliferating cells were detected using tritiated thymidine or 5-bromodeoxiuridine pulse labelling. After lesion, granule neurons in the lizard medial cortex cell layer appeared pyknotic and died; they were then removed and progressively replaced by a set of new neurons. These neurons were mostly generated from …

Stellenwert der Skelettszintigraphie in der Diagnostik und Verlaufskontrolle des Ewing-Sarkoms

1989

The radiological and scintigraphic findings of 26 patients with histologically proven Ewing's sarcoma were analysed. Three-phase bone scan should be done early in patients presenting with pain and normal radiographs. Perfusion and metabolism of a bone lesion can be assessed by skeletal scintigraphy. Bone metastases are first seen on bone scan. In the follow-up of the patient bone scans at regular intervals are essential to detect bone metastases and tumour recurrence. The scintigraphic findings have to be correlated with radiographs and if these are negative a short-term control is indicated. Three-phase bone scans can assess the tumours response to therapy.

Fibro-osseous lesion of maxilla. Report of two cases in a family with review of literature

2011

Fibrous dysplasia is a disturbance of bone metabolism that is classified as a benign fibro-osseous lesion. Fibrous connective tissue containing abnormal bone, replaces normal bone. The etiology of fibrous dysplasia is unknown. The radiographic appearance of the irregularly shaped trabeculae aids in the differential diagnosis. Occurring most commonly in the second decade of life, the lesions of fibrous dysplasia can be surgically recontoured for esthetic or functional purposes once they become dormant.

Das Chlorom (Granulozytäres Sarkom, Myeloblastom) - Klinik und radiologische Diagnostik -

2000

Six cases of granulocytic sarcoma are presented. A mediastinal chloroma and a tumor of the submandibular gland were observed with two patients as single sign of acute myeloic leukaemia. In one patient a chloroma appeared as first manifestation of acute myeloic leukaemia. Two patients exhibited the tumor as first symptom of a blastic crisis of chronic myelogenous leukaemia (femoral bone, lumbar spine). The sixth patient with a myelodyplastic syndrom showed a chloroma of the breast. Various radiological procedures were applied including plain radiography, MRT, CT and mammography. The results are compared with literature. Principles of therapy were supplemented.

Intra- and Interrater Reliability of Sagittal Spinopelvic Parameters on Full-Spine Radiographs in Adults With Symptomatic Spinal Disorders

2018

Background/Aims To evaluate the intra- and interrater reliability (I-IR) of sagittal spinopelvic parameters from digital full-spine plain radiographs with basic software tools in an unselected adult population with degenerative spinal complaints who were evaluated for surgery. Methods Forty-nine adult full-spine digital radiographs were measured twice by 3 independent observers, including an experienced spine surgeon, an experienced radiologist, and a resident orthopedic surgeon. Clinical picture archiving and communication system workstations and software tools were used and landmarks were set manually. The I-IR of the sagittal vertical axis (SVA), pelvic tilt (PT), pelvic incidence (PI), …

Regional distribution of blood flow in the renal cortex

1969

Incorporation of phenylalanine-H3 in the fragments of the fertilized ascidian egg

1972
