The modulation transfer function and signal-to-noise ratio of different digital filters: a technical approach.

2011

The aim of this study was to illustrate the influence of digital filters on the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and modulation transfer function (MTF) of digital images. The article will address image pre-processing that may be beneficial for the production of clinically useful digital radiographs with lower radiation dose.Three filters, an arithmetic mean filter, a median filter and a Gaussian filter (standard deviation (SD) = 0.4), with kernel sizes of 3 × 3 pixels and 5 × 5 pixels were tested. Synthetic images with exactly increasing amounts of Gaussian noise were created to gather linear regression of SNR before and after application of digital filters. Artificial stripe patterns with defin…

Sonographie bei Skelettmetastasen - Stellenwert im Vergleich zur Computertomographie und konventionellen Röntgendiagnostik

1990

The value of CT, conventional radiography and ultrasound was compared in 40 patients with 52 skeletal metastases. For superficial lesions, the combination of sonography and conventional radiography was equivalent to CT in showing the extent of bone destruction and soft tissue involvement. As expected sonography was unsatisfactory for deeper lesions. Sonography can provide useful information for planning radiation therapy for superficial lesions, but it does not replace conventional radiography.

The importance of bioceramics and computed tomography in the late clinical management of a horizontal root fracture : a case report

2020

Root fractures resulting from dental trauma involve dentin, cementum and pulp. The present study aimed to demonstrate the importance of cone-beam computed tomography (CBTC) and bioceramics in the correct planning and intervention of a horizontal root fracture case in tooth 11 with late treatment in an 18-year-old patient. Clinical and radiographic examinations revealed tooth displacement, pain on vertical percussion and images suggestive of a horizontal root fracture. Pulp necrosis was diagnosed and CBTC was requested for treatment planning. Subsequently, endodontic treatment was performed using a bioceramic apical plug. A 2-year follow-up indicated the absence of root resorption and normal…

"Osteolipoma of buccal mucosa: Case report and literature review"

2016

Osteolipoma affecting oral cavity is indeed rare. We hereby report a case of osteolipoma affecting buccal mucosa. A review of literature of osteolipoma of oral cavity, particularly on radiographic/imaging findings was done. Only 16 cases of Osteolipoma of oral cavity are reported in the literature. The radiographic findings of our case, i.e. multiple dense homogenous radio-opaque structures was reported earlier only in one case [out of 16] of osteolipoma of oral cavity. Key words:Lipoma, osteolipoma, panoramic radiography, radio-opaque, radiography.

The wolf in sheep’s clothing: microtomographic aspects of clinically incipient radiation-related caries

2015

Background: Radiation-related caries (RRC) can cause rapid progression, with a high potential for dental destruction affecting mainly cervical and incisal areas. Unlike the injuries that occur in the conventional caries, incipient RRC present in unusual surfaces have difficult diagnosis and classification stages of cavitation. Material and Methods: Evaluate the radiographic patterns of demineralization of RRC by using micro-CT. Ten teeth with incipient RRC and 10 teeth with incipient conventional caries (control group) matched by anatomic teeth group and caries affected surfaces were evaluated by X-ray microtomography (micro-CT) Skyscan 1174V2 (50Kv, 1.3 megapixel, Kontich, Belgium). Teeth …

Multiple teeth replacement with endosseous one-piece yttrium-stabilized zirconia dental implants

2012

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to clinically and radiographically evaluate survival and success rate of multiple zirconia dental implants positioned in each patient during a follow-up period of at least 12 months up to 48 months. Study Design: Eight patients were treated for multiple edentulism with 29 zirconia dental implants. All implants received immediate temporary restorations and 6 months after surgery were definitively restored. 6 months to 4 years after implant insertion, a clinical-radiographic evaluation was performed in order to estimate peri-implant tissues health and peri-implant marginal bone loss. Results: Survival rate within follow-up period was therefore 100%. Th…

Posterior subtalar dislocation.

2009

A subtalar dislocation of the foot is an uncommon injury, and cases of posterior subtalar dislocation are even rarer. This injury is characterized by a simultaneous dislocation of talocalcaneal and talonavicular joints while tibiotalar and calcaneocuboid articulations remain intact. Subtalar dislocation is commonly accompanied by fractures of the malleoli, talus, or fifth metatarsal and by a rotational component of the subtalar joint. Subtalar dislocation can occur in any direction and produces significant deformity. This article presents a case of pure posterior subtalar dislocation in an 80-year-old man who presented with pain and deformity in his left ankle following a motorcycle acciden…
