Radiologische Verlaufskontrolle der Thoraxorgane beim Intensivpflegepatienten

1991

Correlation between chest radiographs and clinical indicators was studied in 212 patients in intensive care. 1. There was good correlation between raised pulmonary artery pressure and radiological signs of left heart insufficiency, but not with the value of central venous pressure. 2. Fever and leukocytosis nearly always precede radiological evidence of pneumonia; their persistence does not necessarily indicate persistent pneumonia. 3. Pneumonias, effusions, atelectases and emboli are more common on the right. 4. More than 70% of central venous catheters were incorrectly placed; most commonly, the catheter was placed too low. Life-threatening complications occurred in 1.3%.

Fraktur des Os capitatum bei einem 11-jährigen Jungen

2010

We report the case of an isolated non-displaced fracture of the capitate in an 11-year-old boy. On the basis of the relevant literature we present a survey of the diagnostic and treatment options. To the best of our knowledge this is the first description of a paediatric capitate fracture in the German-speaking area.

Bedeutung der Kalkdepot-elimination bei Tendinosis calcarea der Schulter

2000

Aim: To evaluate the effect of complete elimination of the calcific deposit on the clinical outcome in patients with a recalcitrant calcifying tendinitis of the shoulder. Patients and methods: 50 patients with a chronic calcifying tendinitis of the shoulder (Type Gartner I or II) underwent a single application of extracorporeal shock waves (3000 impulses, energy flux density 0.60mj/ mm 2 ). After one year 45 patients were evaluated radiologically and clinically. Results: Radiologically a complete absorption of the calcific deposit was observed in 21 patients (47%). In 9 patients there was no radiological change. The radiological success was closely related to the radiomorphology of the depo…

Imaging Approach for Evaluation of Focal Liver Lesions

2009

Focal liver lesions are common in the general population. Radiology (imaging) plays a pivotal role for the diagnosis, staging, treatment planning, and follow-up of focal liver lesions. To maximize lesion detection and characterization, imaging needs to be performed with appropriate equipment by using protocols carefully designed on the basis of the underlying clinical context. In addition, the decision of an imaging modality cannot be based on the diagnostic accuracy of an imaging test solely but must also consider patient safety and cost-effectiveness.

Double nail of the second toe: A case report with sonographic and radiological correlation

2021

Double toenail is a rare abnormality that usually affects the fifth toe. It is considered as an inherited condition that may represent an incomplete form of polydactyly. Underlying bone abnormalities should be ruled out. We present a case of a double toenail of the second toe, a location that has not previously been described, with underlying bone involvement noted on ultrasound and plain films.

Osteomyelitis - Bildgebende Verfahren und ihre Wertigkeit

1998

Various imaging modalities are used in diagnosis of acute and chronic infectious endogenous osteomyelitis and exogenous ostitis. The pathophysiological changes of osteomyelitis/ostitis in the bone and surrounding soft tissue are known. Findings in plain film radiography show these changes only in relatively advanced stages of disease. Hence, plain film radiographs are useful as a basic imaging modality by excluding other differentials and as a follow-up modality under therapy. Ultrasound-using advanced technology--offers diagnostic help in acute osteomyelitis, especially in infants. The various techniques of nuclear medicine show much higher sensitivity for detecting osteomyelitis than plai…

2014

Management of osteonecrosis of the jaw associated with antiresorptive agents is challenging, and outcomes are unpredictable. The severity of disease is the main guide to management, and can help to predict prognosis. Most available staging systems for osteonecrosis, including the widely-used American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS) system, classify severity on the basis of clinical and radiographic findings. However, clinical inspection and radiography are limited in their ability to identify the extent of necrotic bone disease compared with computed tomography (CT). We have organised a large multicentre retrospective study (known as MISSION) to investigate the agreem…

Magnification in apical surgerymusing the endoscope: a review

2011

Objective: A review is made to determine whether the use of the endoscope in endodontic surgery offers advantages in clinical practice, and whether it improves the clinical and radiographic outcomes of the procedure. Material and methods: The main search terms used were: endodontic surgery, apicoectomy, apical surgery, endoscope, and magnification devices . The authors searched the Medline database for articles published up to 1 September 2010. The review included experimental studies comparing endoscopic microstructural findings with the findings of the naked eye or other magnification devices, as well as prospective clinical trials comparing endodontic surgery with or without the use of a…
