Capilaridad de la manufactura textil en la Plana de Castelló. El caso de Onda en el siglo XV
2010
Onda, a locality with an oscillating population between 300 and 600 dwellings in the 15th century and with Moslems and Jews in the local work, becomes a new piece of the puzzle that lets us see the capillarity of the wool textile manufacture in “La Plana de Castelló”. This capillarity can be seen in the production of clothes, just like in the raw material trade or in the movement of craftsmen. To approach this situation we have basically used the series of documents of the judge of the village kept in the “Archivo del Reino de Valencia”.

Experiments Meet Hydrophobic Mismatch: A Re-evaluation Of The Orientation Of Model Transmembrane Peptides From Solid-State NMR
2009
The basic physical rules underlying the organization of biological membranes can be gathered under the simple, but powerful, concept of hydrophobic mismatch. For example, the mutual adjustment of the lipid and protein hydrophobic lengths can be related with the existence of lipid rafts and explain discrete secretory pathways in the Golgi apparatus. The orientation of membrane protein fragments is predicted to follow the same hydrophobic mismatch principles, as illustrated by some experiments and molecular dynamics simulations. However, this appears to be challenged by results of solid-state 2H NMR experiments on model transmembrane peptides, displaying tilt angle values unexpectedly small a…
Reference tracking control of hypersonic vehicles using switched linear parameter-varying approach
2013
This paper is concerned with the control problem of the air-breathing hypersonic vehicle using switched linear parameter-varying (LPV) systems approach. By linearizing the nonlinear model of the hypersonic vehicle at trim points and dividing the velocity scope into several partitions, a switched LPV model for the underlying systems is derived. With aid of multiple Lyapunov-like functions technique, the controllers ensuring the tracking of given commands of the closed-loop system are designed under the mode-independent and mode-dependent switching logics, respectively. Simulation results for the hypersonic vehicle show the effectiveness of the proposed method and the advantages of the mode-d…
Site-specific halloysite functionalization by polydopamine: A new synthetic route for potential near infrared-activated delivery system
2022
Abstract Halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) represent a versatile core structure for the design of functional nanosystems of biomedical interest. However, the development of selective methodologies for the site-controlled functionalization of the nanotubes at specific sites is not an easy task. This study aims to accomplish a procedure for the site-selective/specific, “pin-point”, functionalization of HNTs with polydopamine (HNTs@PDA). This goal was achieved, at pH 6.5, by exploiting the basicity of ZnO nanoparticles anchored on the HNTs external surface (HNTs@ZnO) to induce a punctual polydopamine polymerization and coating. The morphology and the chemical composition of the nanomaterial was demo…
Agronomic performance and fruit quality in greenhouse grown eggplant are interactively modulated by iodine dosage and grafting
2022
Iodine (I) is considered an indispensable trace element for humans due to its capacity to promise a normal functions of thyroid hormones, preventing cretinism, goiter, reproductive failure, and diverse types of brain injury. Vegetable grafting is a technique for securing yield constancy and/or improving fruit quality. The study evaluated the combined effect of I-dosages and grafting onto Solanum torvum rootstock on 'Birgah' eggplant. Iodine at 100 or 300 mg L-1 enhanced marketable yield by 28.8% and 8.5%, respectively, compared with the control. Plants grafted onto S. torvum and self-grafted plants increased marketable yield by 53.0% and 45.8%, respectively compared with the ungrafted plant…
Resilience in Critical infrastructure within the energy sector of Norway
2021
Master's thesis in Cyber security (IS507) This thesis investigates what are the characteristics of resilience within the energy sector, as well as what are the "best” known practices being used to increase awareness of the employees. By looking at the existing literature and finding differences between how the energy sector in Norway vs other nations approaches resilience. There is a difference in Norway's more decentralized power grid, where many smaller power stations supply energy, compared to other nation with single large power station. This influences how they will approach resilience. The study uses a qualitative research approach, with semi-structured interviews to gather data from …
Reversible graft versus host reaction as cause of erythrophagic splenomegaly in a child?
1977
The case history of a 9 months old infant with hepatosplenomegaly, pancytopnaenia and disturbances of clotting and cellular immune reactivity is reported. The spleen was removed and showed striking erythrophagocytosis by proliferating histiocytes, typical of "familial erythrophagocytic reticulosis" (Farquhar). A graft-versus-host reaction is discussed as a possible underlying cause. The favourable clinical course and full recovery point to an interrelation with primary hypersplenism.
Protection from graft-versus-host disease by HIV-1 envelope protein gp120-mediated activation of human CD4+CD25+ regulatory T cells.
2009
AbstractNaturally occurring CD4+CD25+ regulatory T cells (Tregs) represent a unique T-cell lineage that is endowed with the ability to actively suppress immune responses. Therefore, approaches to modulate Treg function in vivo could provide ways to enhance or reduce immune responses and lead to novel therapies. Here we show that the CD4 binding human immunodeficiency virus-1 envelope glycoprotein gp120 is a useful and potent tool for functional activation of human Tregs in vitro and in vivo. Gp120 activates human Tregs by binding and signaling through CD4. Upon stimulation with gp120, human Tregs accumulate cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) in their cytosol. Inhibition of endogeneous cA…
