A legacy of contrasting spatial genetic structure on either side of the Atlantic-Mediterranean transition zone in a marine protist
2012
The mechanisms that underpin the varied spatial genetic structures exhibited by free-living marine microorganisms remain controversial, with most studies emphasizing a high dispersal capability that should redistribute genetic diversity in contrast to most macroorganisms whose populations often retain a genetic signature of demographic response to historic climate fluctuations. We quantified the European phylogeographic structure of the marine flagellate Oxyrrhis marina and found a marked difference in spatial genetic structure, population demography, and genetic diversity between the northwest Atlantic and Mediterranean Sea that reflects the persistent separation of these regions as well …
Rural livelihood diversification: a solution for poverty in the post‐Soviet rural Baltic states?
2019
This article analyses rural livelihood diversification through a longitudinal follow‐up survey, that targets former collective farm workers in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. It argues, that between 1995 and 2010 the former collective farm workers employed three distinct livelihood diversification strategies in order to create their living. A wage‐based livelihood diversification strategy, which does not include any agricultural practices, was more common among the better‐off households. A farm‐based livelihood diversification strategy, which does not rely on salaries, was more often employed by the poor. A mixed strategy, that combines both wage income and farm activities, was used by both …
Reversal of Gender Disparity in Journalism Education- Study of Ghana Institute of Journalism
2017
Journalism has practically become a feminine profession across the world. To understand the root of the flow of women into the Journalism profession it is pertinent to begin at the university education level. Gallagher’s 1992 worldwide survey of female students in 83 journalism institutions reveals a significant increase in number of female students. Djerf-Pierre (2007) and others argue along Bourdieu’s conception of education as a form of social capital which empowers, enables and enhances women’s competitiveness in a pre-dominantly androgynous social arena. The study analyses 16 years of enrolment data of the Academic Affairs Unit of the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ), a leading Jour…
Laser spectroscopy of gallium isotopes beyond N = 50
2012
The installation of an ion-beam cooler-buncher at the ISOLDE, CERN facility has provided increased sensitivity for collinear laser spectroscopy experiments. A migration of single-particle states in gallium and in copper isotopes has been investigated through extensive measurements of ground state and isomeric state hyperfine structures. Lying beyond the N = 50 shell closure, 82Ga is the most exotic nucleus in the region to have been studied by optical methods, and is reported here for the first time. ispartof: pages:012071-6 ispartof: Journal of Physics: Conference Series vol:381 issue:1 pages:012071-6 ispartof: Rutherford Centennial Conference on Nuclear Physics location:Manchester, UK dat…
Unequal poverty and equal industrialisation: Finnish wealth, 1750–1900
2018
We present the first comprehensive, long-run estimates of Finnish wealth and its distribution from 1750 to 1900. Using wealth data from 17,279 probate inventories, we show that Finland was very unequal between 1750 and 1850; the top decile owned about 90% of total wealth. This means that Finland was more unequal than the much wealthier economies Britain, France and the US, which goes against the common assumption of richer economies being more unequal. Moreover, when industrialisation took off in Finland, inequality started a downward trajectory. High inequality 1750–1850 was bottom-driven, by a large share of the population owning nothing or close to nothing of value, while economic develo…
Robot acceptance model for care (RAM-care) : A principled approach to the intention to use care robots
2020
Robots are emerging in welfare services, and organizations require information on whether novel technologies are approved among staff. On the basis of technology acceptance theories, this study proposes a model that adds a principled approach to the intention to use care robots. Data of 544 professionals with care robot experience were collected. The use intention was predicted by usefulness, enjoyment, social influence, and attitude. Respondents who found robots useful and accepted by their colleagues were more likely to view robot use as consistent with their personal values. The care robot acceptance model supports consideration of the profession-specific context in robotization. peerRev…
Hotelli-ravintola Wanhan Jokelan ja Jyväskylän Shellin huoltoaseman suojelutapaukset
2013
N2,N2.N6,N6-Tetrakis(perfluorobenzoyl)-2,6-diaminopyridine
2011
The title compound, C³³H³F²⁰N³O⁴, is a highly fluorinated organic imide that was isolated as an unexpected product from the reaction of 2,6-diaminopyridine with 2,3,4,5,6-pentafluorobenzoyl chloride in a 1:2 molar ratio. The molecule is located on a twofold axis and one of its symmetry-independent 2,3,4,5,6-pentafluorobenzoyl groups is disordered over two sets of sites, the occupancy of the major component being 0.773 (3). In the major component, the dihedral angle between the perfluorophenyl groups is 63.64 (10)°, and these groups form dihedral angles of 67.14 (7) and 21.1 (2)° with the pyridine core. Short intermolecular C-HO and C-H...N contacts are found in the crystal structure. peerRe…
Supporting Creativity and Learning at Work : Practices and Structures from Growth Companies
2021
The constant change embedded in contemporary working life requires employees and organisations alike to continuously learn and, simultaneously, adapt and be creative. The potential to attract, manage and engage creative people, as well as support learning, has become increasingly important in organisational contexts. It is essential to recognise what the underlying learning theories are and how they connect with the current understanding of creativity. It is also important to study different manifestations of creativity and learning and reactively and proactively discover ways of supporting and developing both aspects in contemporary organisations. In this chapter, we first present our appr…
Kuntaliitokset muutoksessa : Säynätsalon ja Korpilahden liitokset Jyväskylään 1990-2000-lukujen toimintaympäristön muutosten valossa
2008
Tässä tutkielmassa käsitellään kuntaliitosten luonteen muutosta kuntien toimintaympäristön muutoksissa 1990–2000-luvuilla. Tutkimuksen tavoitteena on kuvata tutkimuksen tapauskuntaliitosten eroja ja yhtäläisyyksiä sekä pyrkiä selittämään niitä kuntien toimintaympäristössä tapahtuneilla muutoksilla. Kunnat ovat kohdanneet tutkittavalla aikavälillä voimakkaita taloudellisia suhteita koskevia muutoksia, muuttoliikkeen voimistumisen, kansainvälistymisen ja Euroopan integraation kehityksen sekä laajojen julkishallintoa koskevien uudistusprosessien vaikutuksia. Yksi merkittävimmistä kuntien toimintaympäristöä muuttaneista tekijöistä on vuonna 2005 käynnistetty maamme suurin hallinnollinen uudistu…
