Room temperature ionic liquids based on cationic porphyrin derivatives and tetrakis(pentafluorophenyl)borate anion

A series of 11 low melting ionic liquids based on meso-substituted A3B -porphyrins and A2B2-porphyrins containing one or two pyridyl substituents have been synthesized in high yields. Three of them are liquids at room temperature. All these porphyrinic salts were characterized by1H NMR,19F NMR, MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry, elemental analysis and UV-visible spectroscopy. The thermal properties and conductivity values of these salt derivatives have been also measured. A specific conductivity value of up to 4 mS.cm-1could be obtained for a compound having the counter-anion B(C6F5)4-.

Further development of a commercial driving simulation for research in occupational medicine

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to refine a commercial car driving simulation for occupational research. As the effects of ethanol on driving behavior are well established, we choose alcohol as a test compound to investigate the performance of subjects during simulation. Materials and Methods: We programmed a night driving scenario consisting of monotonous highway and a rural road on a Foerst F10-P driving simulator. Twenty healthy men, 19-30 years, participated in a pilot study. Subjects were screened for simulator sickness, followed by training on the simulator one hour in total. Robust current observer design for DC-DC converters

In recent years several fast response controllers have been proposed for DC-DC converters. The majority of them rely on a cascade control structure involving the inductor's current in the control function as its faster dynamics, respect to output voltage, allows a significant increase in the regulation performance; the drawback is the need of a proper and expensive current sensor. In this paper a simple and robust formulation for the design of a current observer, based on the output voltage measurement is presented. Observation of a superfluid component within solid helium

2011

We demonstrate by neutron scattering that a localized superfluid component exists at high pressures within solid helium in aerogel. Its existence is deduced from the observation of two sharp phonon-roton spectra which are clearly distinguishable from modes in bulk superfluid helium. These roton excitations exhibit different roton gap parameters than the roton observed in the bulk fluid at freezing pressure. One of the roton modes disappears after annealing the samples. Comparison with theoretical calculations suggests that the model that reproduces the observed data best is that of superfluid double layers within the solid and at the helium-substrate interface. peerReviewed

In this work, the authors evaluate the energetic and economic advantages connected to the implementation of an electric Kinetic Energy Recovery System (e-KERS) on an internal combustion engine vehicle (ICEV). The e-KERS proposed is based on the use of a supercapacitor (SC) as energy storage element, a brushless motor generator unit (MGU) for the conversion of the vehicle kinetic energy into electric energy (and vice versa), and a power converter properly designed to manage the power transfer between SC and MGU. Tämän tutkimuksen tavoitteena on tunnistaa, kuinka tarina Irakin 2003 sodan käänteistä muodostui julkisuuteen. Tutkimuksen näkökulma on suuren yleisön siinä mielessä, että aineistona käytetään sanomalehtitekstejä liittyen kyseiseen sotaan. Toisaalta näkökulmana ja lähtökohtana on narratiiviteoria, jonka kautta aineistoanalyysi kulkee. Tutkimuksen aineiston muodostaa 2003 maalis-toukokuiden Helsingin Sanomat: tämän aikajakson lehdet on käyty kokonaisuudessaan läpi.
