Raman and infrared studies ofLa1−ySryMn1−xMxO3(M=Cr, Co, Cu, Zn, Sc or Ga): Oxygen disorder and local vibrational modes

2006

We present results of our study of polarized Raman scattering and infrared reflectivity of rhombohedral ceramic La1-ySryMn1-xMxO3 manganites in the temperature range between 77 and 320 K. In our samples, a part of the Mn atoms is substituted by M = Cr, Co, Cu, Zn, Sc, or Ga with x in the range 0-0.1. The hole concentration was kept at the optimal value of about 32% by tuning the Sr content y. We have monitored distortions of the oxygen sublattice by the presence of broad bands in the Raman spectra, the increase of dc resistivity extracted from the infrared reflectivity, and the change of the critical temperature of the ferromagnetic transition. Our results support the idea that these proper…

Growth and size distribution of Au nanoparticles in annealed Au/TiO2 thin films

2014

Abstract Nanocomposites consisting of noble metal nanoparticles (NPs) embedded in TiO2 thin films are of great interest for applications in optoelectronics, photocatalysis and solar-cells for which the plasmonic properties of the metal NPs play a major role. This work investigates the first stages of the formation of gold NPs by thermal annealing of Au-doped TiO2 thin films grown by magnetron sputtering. A low concentration of gold in the films is considered (5 at.%) in order to study the first stages of the formation of the NPs. Raman spectroscopy is used to follow the crystallization of TiO2 when increasing the annealing temperature. In addition, low-frequency Raman scattering (LFRS) is u…

Low loss microstructured chalcogenide fibers for large non linear effects at 1995 nm

2010

International audience; Microstructured optical fibers (MOFs) are traditionally prepared using the stack and draw technique. In order to avoid the interfaces problems observed in chalcogenide glasses, we have developed a new casting method to prepare the chalcogenide preform. This method allows to reach optical losses around 0.4 dB/m at 1.55 µm and less than 0.05 dB/m in the mid IR. Various As(38)Se(62) chalcogenide microstructured fibers have been prepared in order to combine large non linear index of these glasses with the mode control offered by MOF structures. Small core fibers have been drawn to enhance the non linearities. In one of these, three Stokes order have been generated by Ram…

Suppression of stimulated Raman scattering in optical fibres by power-controlled multifrequency pumping

1999

International audience; We present a method for suppressing the stimulated Raman scattering process induced by a multifrequency pump field propagating in a normally dispersive single-mode fibre. The suppression process is completely achieved by suitably choosing the frequency separation between the pumps, as well as the power distribution among the frequency components of the pump field. The experimental spectra show the effectiveness of this suppression process for a dual-frequency pumping configuration.

Tunable Four-wave Mixing Light Source Based on Photonic Crystal Fibers with Variable Chromatic Dispersion

2019

We present a detailed experimental study of fourwave mixing tuning in photonic crystal fibers that were filled either with ethanol or with heavy water. It is demonstrated that wide tuning ranges can be achieved in both cases through the variable chromatic dispersion generated by thermo-optic effect. Tunability of the signal band from 745 nm to 919 nm, and of the idler band from 1260 nm to 1759 nm is demonstrated with a pump at 1064 nm. Numerical calculations were carried out and show good agreement with experimental measurements. We present a detailed experimental study of fourwave mixing tuning in photonic crystal fibers that were filled either with ethanol or with heavy water. It is demon…

Fourth-order cascaded Raman shift in AsSe chalcogenide suspended-core fiber pumped at 2 μm

2011

International audience; Cascaded Raman wavelength shifting up to the fourth order ranging from 2092 to 2450nm is demonstrated using a nanosecond pump at 1995nm in a low-loss As38Se62 suspended-core microstructured fiber. These four Stokes shifts are obtained with a low peak power of 11W, and only 3W are required to obtain three shifts. The Raman gain coefficient for the fiber is estimated to (1.6 +-0.5)x 10e−11 m/W at 1995nm. The positions and the amplitudes of the Raman peaks are well reproduced by the numerical simulations of the nonlinear propagation.

<title>Raman scattering by phonons and magnons in Ni<formula><inf><roman>c</roman></inf></formula>Mg<for…

2003

ABSTRACT The Raman scattering by phonons and magnons was studied at room temperature in polycrystalline solid solutions NiMg1O and pure NiO. The experimental Raman spectrum of NiO consists of six well resolved bands, whose originis due to the disorder-induced one-phonon scattering (bands at 400 and 500 cm'), two-phonon scattering (bands at 750,900 and 1 100 cm) and two-magnon scattering (band at 1500 cm). In NiMg1O solid solutions, a relative increase ofone-phonon scattering is observed upon a dilution of nickel oxide by magnesium ions: at room temperature, the two-magnon band becomes invisible for c<O.7, whereas the two-phonon contribution disappears at c<O.5. Such behaviour isexplained by…

Raman studies of isotope effects in Si and GaAs

1999

Abstract We have measured by Raman scattering changes of the optic phonon energy and line width in Si and GaAs with isotopic composition. The phonon energies of isotopically pure samples show the expected dependence on the average atomic mass in Si and the reduced mass in GaAs, respectively, as well as small anharmonic contributions. In isotopically disordered samples we find frequency shifts of 1.15(20) cm−1 for 28Si0.530Si0.5 and 0.31(20) cm−1 for the TO phonon of natGaAs, induced by mass disorder which also contributes to the line broadening. We give theoretical estimates of these effects.

Anticrossing of axial and planar surface-related phonon modes in Raman spectra of self-assembled GaN nanowires

2012

cited By 17; International audience; GaN columnar nanostructures usually called nanowires have been investigated by micro-Raman spectroscopy. In addition to conventional Raman scattering by confined optical phonons of a wurtzite structure (i.e., E 2h and QLO modes), an unusual two peaks band centered near 700 cm -1 is observed and analyzed as a function of several experimental parameters (polarization, filling factor, incidence angle). The surface character of these two modes is experimentally confirmed by their high sensitivity to the dielectric constant of the as-grown nanowires surrounding medium. Calculations describing the nanowires' environment by means of an effective dielectric func…

Raman scattering inβ-ZnS

2004

The first- and second-order Raman spectra of cubic ZnS $(\ensuremath{\beta}$-ZnS, zinc-blende) are revisited. We consider spectra measured with two laser lines for samples with different isotopic compositions, aiming at a definitive assignment of the observed Raman features and the mechanisms which determine the linewidth of the first order TO and LO Raman phonons. For this purpose, the dependence of the observed spectra on temperature and pressure is investigated. The linewidth of the TO phonons is found to vary strongly with pressure and isotopic masses. Pressure runs, up to 15 GPa, were performed at 16 K and 300 K. Whereas well-defined TO Raman phonons were observed at low temperature in…
