Mean-field effects on neutrinoless double beta decay

1998

Abstract Mean-field effects on the nuclear matrix elements involved in the neutrinoless double beta (0νββ) decay of several double-electron and double-positron emitters have been studied within the framework of the relativistic quark-confinement model and the quasiparticle random-phase approximation. The single-particle energies of the model space have been generated both by using the standard Woods-Saxon parametrization of the mean field and adjusting the quasiparticle spectra with the data from neutron- and proton-odd nuclei. The 0νββ rates are found to be much less affected by the energies of the mean-field orbitals than the rates of the two-neutrino double beta decay. The present study …

β-decay half-lives andβ-delayed neutron emission probabilities of nuclei in the regionA≲110, relevant for the r process

2009

Measurements of $\ensuremath{\beta}$-decay properties of $A\ensuremath{\lesssim}110$ r-process nuclei have been completed at the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory at Michigan State University. $\ensuremath{\beta}$-decay half-lives for $^{105}\mathrm{Y}$, $^{106,107}\mathrm{Zr}$, and $^{111}\mathrm{Mo}$, along with $\ensuremath{\beta}$-delayed neutron emission probabilities of $^{104}\mathrm{Y}$, $^{109,110}\mathrm{Mo}$ and upper limits for $^{105}\mathrm{Y}$, $^{103\ensuremath{-}107}\mathrm{Zr}$, and $^{108,111}\mathrm{Mo}$ have been measured for the first time. Studies on the basis of the quasi-random-phase approximation are used to analyze the ground-state deformation of these…

Adiabatic Time-Dependent Hartree-Fock Calculations of the Optimal Path, the Potential, and the Mass Parameter for Large-Amplitude Collective Motion

1980

The adiabatic time-dependent Hartree-Fock theory is reformulated in order to yield a simple differential equation for the collective path with accompanying simple expressions for the collective mass and the potential. With use of three-dimensional coordinate- and momentum-space techniques and density-dependent interactions, the new adiabatic time-dependent Hartree-Fock formalism is applied to $\ensuremath{\alpha}\ensuremath{-}\ensuremath{\alpha}$ scattering and correspondingly to the fission mode of $^{8}\mathrm{Be}$. In the overlapping region the resulting collective mass deviates strongly from the reduced mass.

Inclusive Nucleon Emission Induced by Quasi--Elastic Neutrino--Nucleus Interactions

2005

We study the quasi--elastic contribution to the inclusive $(\nu_l,\nu_l N)$, $(\nu_l,l^- N)$, $({\bar \nu}_l,{\bar \nu}_l N)$ and $({\bar \nu}_l,l^+ N)$ reactions in nuclei using a Monte Carlo simulation method to account for the rescattering of the outgoing nucleon. As input, we take the reaction probability from the microscopical many body framework developed in Phys. Rev. {\bf C70} (2004) 055503 for charged-current induced reactions, while for neutral currents we use results from a natural extension of the model described in that reference. The nucleon emission process studied here is a clear signal for neutral--current neutrino driven reactions, that can be used in the analysis of futur…

Inter-Chain Structure Factors of Flexible Polymers in Solutions: A Monte Carlo Investigation

1997

Off-lattice Monte Carlo simulations of both the single chain structure factor h(q) and the inter-chain structure factor HD(q) of flexible polymers in solutions are presented over a wide range of both wavenumber q and concentration c from the dilute to the concentrated regime, for chain lengths up to N = 256. The single chain properties $\{$gyration radius 〈Rg2〉, $h(q)\}$ are in reasonable agreement with the expected theoretical behavior, showing a crossover from swollen chains $\{\langle R_{\rm g}^2\rangle \propto N^{2\nu} ,~ h(q) \propto q^{-1/\nu}\}$ to Gaussian chains, and the data comply with a scaling description, with a correlation length ξ∝c-ν/(3ν-1). However, the inter-chain structu…

Improved Limits on Axionlike-Particle-Mediated P , T -Violating Interactions between Electrons and Nucleons from Electric Dipole Moments of Atoms and…

2018

In the presence of P, T-violating interactions, the exchange of axionlike particles between electrons and nucleons in atoms and molecules induces electric dipole moments (EDMs) of atoms and molecules. We perform calculations of such axion-exchange-induced atomic EDMs using the relativistic Hartree-Fock-Dirac method including electron core polarization corrections. We present analytical estimates to explain the dependence of these induced atomic EDMs on the axion mass and atomic parameters. From the experimental bounds on the EDMs of atoms and molecules, including ^{133}Cs, ^{205}Tl, ^{129}Xe, ^{199}Hg, ^{171}Yb^{19}F, ^{180}Hf^{19}F^{+}, and ^{232}Th^{16}O, we constrain the P, T-violating s…

Response functions for infinite fermion systems with velocity dependent interactions

1992

Response functions of infinite Fermi systems are studied in the framework of the self-consistent random phase approximation (RPA). Starting from an effective interaction with velocity and density dependence, or equivalently from a local energy density functional, algebraic expressions for the RPA response function are derived. Simple formulae for the energy-weighted and polarizability sum rules are obtained. The method is illustrated by applications to nuclear matter and liquid 3 He. In nuclear matter, it is shown that existing Skyrme interactions give spin-isospin response functions close to those calculated with finite range interactions. The different renormalization of longitudinal and …

Spin-multipole nuclear matrix elements in thepnquasiparticle random-phase approximation: Implications forβandββhalf-lives

2017

Half-lives for 148 potentially measurable 2nd-, 3rd-, 4th-, 5th-, 6th-, and 7th-forbidden unique beta transitions are predicted. To achieve this, the ratio of the nuclear matrix elements (NMEs), calculated by the proton-neutron quasiparticle random-phase approximation (pnQRPA), ${M}_{\mathrm{pnQRPA}}$, and a two-quasiparticle (two-qp) model, ${M}_{\mathrm{qp}}$, is studied and compared with earlier calculations for the allowed Gamow-Teller (GT) ${1}^{+}$ and first-forbidden spin-dipole (SD) ${2}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ transitions. The present calculations are done using realistic single-particle model spaces and $G$-matrix based microscopic two-body interactions. In terms of the ratio $k={M}_{\m…

Interference pattern and visibility of a Mott insulator

2005

We analyze theoretically the experiment reported in [F. Gerbier et al, cond-mat/0503452], where the interference pattern produced by an expanding atomic cloud in the Mott insulator regime was observed. This interference pattern, indicative of short-range coherence in the system, could be traced back to the presence of a small amount of particle/hole pairs in the insulating phase for finite lattice depths. In this paper, we analyze the influence of these pairs on the interference pattern using a random phase approximation, and derive the corresponding visibility. We also account for the inhomogeneity inherent to atom traps in a local density approximation. The calculations reproduce the expe…
