AbstractMacroalgae-based products are increasing in demand also in Europe. In the European Union, each category of macroalgae-based products is regulated separately. We discuss EU legislation, including the law on medicinal products, foods including food supplements and food additives, feed and feed additives, cosmetics, packaging materials, fertilizers and biostimulants, as well as biofuels. Product safety and consumer protection are the priorities with any new products. Macroalgae products can be sold as traditional herbal medicines. The novel food regulation applies to macroalgae foods that have not previously been used as food, and organic macroalgae are a specific regulatory category. …

Quality of dietary fat intake and body weight and obesity in a Mediterranean population: Secondary analyses within the PREDIMED trial

A moderately high-fat Mediterranean diet does not promote weight gain. This study aimed to investigate the association between dietary intake of specific types of fat and obesity and body weight. A prospective cohort study was performed using data of 6942 participants in the PREDIMED trial, with yearly repeated validated food-frequency questionnaires, and anthropometric outcomes (median follow-up: 4.8 years). The present study focuses on the frequency of phrasal verbs with the particle up in the context of crime and police investigative work. This research emerges from the need to enlarge McCarthy and O’Dell’s (2004) scope from purely criminal behavior to police investigative actions. To do so, we relied on a corpus of 504,124 running words made up of spoken dialogues extracted from the script of the American TV series Castle shown on ABC since 2009. El objetivo de esta tesis es profundizar en el conocimiento de las estrategias migratorias de las aves del género Acrocephalus, el carricero común A. scirpaceus y el carricerín común A. shoenobaenus, durante la migración de otoño en la Península Ibérica. Su estudio se aborda a dos niveles: por un lado, la organización espacial de la migración a nivel peninsular y por otro el comportamiento en las áreas de descanso. INTRODUCCIÓN La transcripción es el proceso de síntesis enzimática de un RNA a partir de una secuencia complementaria de DNA. En eucariotas, la transcripción de los genes que codifican proteínas la lleva a cabo la RNA polimerasa II (RNA pol II), junto con una gran cantidad de factores auxiliares que participan en el proceso actuando a diferentes niveles. Para que la RNA pol II inicie la transcripción se requiere la formación del complejo pre-inicio (PIC). Uno de los pasos clave en la regulación del inicio de la transcripción es la formación del PIC. The aim of this prospective study was to evaluate the utility of new biochemical markers to assess cardiometabolic risk in severely obese children and adolescents. A total of 107 subjects aged 7 to 14 years, were clinically assessed and anthropometric measures and percentage of fat mass by single frequency bioimpedance analysis were recorded. Of these, 44 were non-overweight and 63 severely obese (body mass index Z-score >2.5) which were stratified by Tanner stages. Procesa gaitā izkausētā silīcija masā nonāk skābekļa, oglekļa, vara un alumīnija piemaisījumi, kuru koncentrācijas mazināšanai radītas jaunas iekārtas. Darba mērķis ir pārbaudīt attīrīšanas procesu uzlabojumu ietekmi uz iegūstamā silīcija tīrību, veicot iegūto silīcija kristālu piemaisījumu analīzi ar Furjē transformācijas infrasarkanās spektrometrijas palīdzību.
