Generation of narrowband antisymmetric lamb waves using a formed laser source in the ablative regime

2007

A formed laser source, using a four-element lenticular array, is used in the ablative regime to generate select, narrowband, acoustic plate waves. The arrangement of the array produces acoustical signals that have frequencies compatible with the response of the broadband capacitive air-coupled transducer used in this study. A simplified concept is presented to explain the effect of a line array source on the frequency content of acoustic waves. The analytical model for a point pulse surface displacement is derived from the point load solution to Lamb's problem. A Rayleigh-Ritz approach for postbuckling analysis of variable angle tow composite stiffened panels

Abstract A Rayleigh-Ritz solution approach for generally restrained multilayered variable angle tow stiffened plates in postbuckling regime is presented. The plate model is based on the first order shear deformation theory and accounts for geometrical nonlinearity through the von Karman’s assumptions. Stiffened plates are modelled as assembly of plate-like elements and penalty techniques are used to join the elements in the assembled structure and to apply the kinematical boundary conditions. Post-buckling analysis of cracked multilayered composite plates by pb-2 Rayleigh–Ritz method

Abstract A pb-2 Rayleigh–Ritz variational approach for the analysis of post-buckling behavior of cracked composite plates is presented. The plate is modeled by the first order shear deformation theory taking geometric nonlinearities into account through the von Karman’s theory. General stacking sequences are considered. A Rayleigh-Ritz approach for the analysis of buckling and post-buckling behavior of cracked composite stiffened plates is presented. The structure is modeled as the assembly of plate elements modeled by the first order shear deformation theory and taking geometric nonlinearities into account through the von Karman’s theory assumptions. Performance Analysis of M-DPSK Modulation over Fast-Hoyt Fading Channels under Non-Isotropic Scattering Conditions

In this paper, we analyze the symbol error probability (SEP) performance of M-ary differential phase shift keying (M-DPSK) modulation schemes over frequency-flat fast-varying Hoyt multipath fading channels. Assuming general non-isotropic scattering conditions, we first derive a finite-range integral expression for the probability density function (PDF) of the phase difference between two non-isotropic Hoyt vectors perturbed by additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN). Sharp estimates and saturation phenomena for a nonlocal eigenvalue problem

Abstract We determine the shape which minimizes, among domains with given measure, the first eigenvalue of a nonlocal operator consisting of a perturbation of the standard Dirichlet Laplacian by an integral of the unknown function. We show that this problem displays a saturation behaviour in that the corresponding value of the minimal eigenvalue increases with the weight affecting the average up to a (finite) critical value of this weight, and then remains constant. This critical point corresponds to a transition between optimal shapes, from one ball as in the Faber–Krahn inequality to two equal balls.

Vibration-based identification of mechanical properties of orthotropic arbitrarily shaped plates: Numerical and experimental assessment

Abstract An innovative procedure is introduced for the identification of the mechanical parameters of orthotropic plates of arbitrary shape, under various boundary conditions, based on vibration data. The method employs a combination of a convenient Rayleigh-Ritz approach and Particle-Swarm Optimization to estimate elastic constants of the orthotropic material in a straightforward manner, without requiring computationally demanding iterative Finite Element analyses.
