An investigation of the neural circuits underlying reaching and reach-to-grasp movements: from planning to execution

Experimental evidence suggests the existence of a sophisticated brain circuit specifically dedicated to reach-to-grasp planning and execution, both in human and non-human primates (Castiello, 2005). Studies accomplished by means of neuroimaging techniques suggest the hypothesis of a dichotomy between a "reach-to-grasp" circuit, involving the anterior intraparietal area, the dorsal and ventral premotor cortices (PMd and PMv - Castiello and Begliomini, 2008; Filimon, 2010) and a "reaching" circuit involving the medial intraparietal area and the superior parieto-occipital cortex (Culham et al., 2006). H∞ sliding mode control for uncertain neutral-type stochastic systems with Markovian jumping parameters

This paper is devoted to the investigation of H ∞ sliding mode control (SMC) for uncertain neutral stochastic systems with Markovian jumping parameters and time-varying delays. A sliding surface functional is firstly constructed. Then, the sliding mode control law is designed to guarantee the reachability of the sliding surface in a finite-time interval. The sufficient conditions for asymptotically stochastic stability of sliding mode dynamics with a given disturbance attenuation level are presented in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Finally, an example is provided to illustrate the efficiency of the proposed method.

Le stazioni vengono caratterizzate dal punto di vista floristico ed ecologico.

This paper is concerned with identifying general mathematical structures which can serve as sufficient conditions for achieving decidability. We present decidability results for a class of systems (called well-structured systems) which consist of a finite control part operating on an infinite data domain. One of the main advances in biliopancreatic endoscopic therapy has been the ability to palliate patients with biliary obstruction by placement of a stent during ERCP, but this is often complicated by clogging of the stent with subsequent jaundice and/or cholangitis. Stent clogging may be caused by microbiological adhesion and biliary stasis. [EN] The Valencian Network of Educational Innovation in Optics consists of three groups from the Universitat de València, Universitat Jaume I, and Universitat Politècnica de València. The participants in the network present an extensive background on performing actions to improve teaching practice. They have been involved for years in scientific outreach activities and in a number of educational innovation projects, which have developed innovative teaching materials. With the aim of sharing their experience and enhance their performance, the three groups have decided to join forces to become a Network of Educational Innovation whose main projects are described in this communication.
