Lectura participativa en red en la formación de maestros/as #pedagogiaUV19

2020

[EN] This article describes the results of a Teaching Innovation experience approved by the Vice-Principal Office for Occupation and Training Programs at the University of Valencia (UV-SFPIE_PID19-1095891). This project was executed in the first semester of the academic year 2019-2020 within the framework of the General Didactics subject of the degrees of Early Childhood Education and Primary School Education of the Faculty of Teaching at the University of Valencia. The main objective of the project was to create a space for critical, open, participatory and global debate on classical pedagogical ideas (Dewey, Montessori, Freinet and Freire) that would allow improving the pedagogical traini…

Parental contribution to child’s early language and interest in books

1998

The relationships between parents’ age, education, literacy activities and shared reading with the child and children’s language skills and early interest in books were examined in a longitudinal study of 108 children. Parents reported on their children’s lexical and grammatical development by using the MacArthur Communicative Development Inventories (the CDIs) at the ages of 14 and 24 months. The Bayley Scales of Infant Development were administered to the children in a laboratory setting at 24 months. Information on parental background variables was obtained through a questionnaire before the children’s birth. Book reading habits were inquired when the children were 2 years of age. Mother…

Trajectories of reading development: A follow-up from birth to school age of children with and without risk for dyslexia

2006

In order to understand why some children are vulnerable to difficulties in their language development and their acquisition of reading skill, the Jyväskylä Longitudinal Study of Dyslexia followed 200 Finnish children from birth to school age. Half of these children had a family history of reading problems and were considered at risk for dyslexia; the other half were not at risk. A novel analysis, mixture modeling, revealed four subgroups with differential developmental trajectories to early reading. The subgroups who showed either a “dysfluent trajectory” (n = 12; 11 at risk vs. 1 control) or a “declining trajectory” (n = 35; 24 vs. 11) contained more children with familial risk for dyslexi…

The play and language behavior of mothers with and without dyslexia and its association to their toddlers' language development.

2004

The play and language behavior of mothers with ( n = 49) and without ( n = 49) specific reading disabilities (RD) was investigated during play with their 14-month-old children. The contribution of maternal behavior to the language development of their children was examined. The children's receptive and expressive language skills were assessed longitudinally at 14, 18, and 30 months, using the MacArthur Communicative Development Inventories and the Reynell Developmental Language Scales. Children with and without familial risk for RD did not differ from each other in any play or language measures at these ages. No group differences were found for mothers' manifestations of nonsymbolic play a…

Transition to formal schooling: Do transition practices matter for academic performance?

2011

Abstract This study examined whether the transition practices implemented in preschool–elementary school pairs contribute to children's academic development during the first year of elementary school. Participants were 398 children who moved from 36 preschools to 22 elementary schools in two Finnish towns. Children were tested in respect to their reading, writing, and math skills in the preschool spring and in the grade 1 spring. The most common practices reported by preschool teachers were discussions about the school entrants and familiarizing preschool children with the school environment and the new teacher. Multilevel latent growth modeling showed that the more the preschool teachers a…

Early Brain Sensitivity to Word Frequency and Lexicality During Reading Aloud and Implicit Reading

2019

The present study investigated the influence of lexical word properties on the early stages of visual word processing (<250 ms) and how the dynamics of lexical access interact with task-driven top-down processes. We compared the brain's electrical response (event-related potentials, ERPs) of 39 proficient adult readers for the effects of word frequency and word lexicality during an explicit reading task versus a visual immediate-repetition detection task where no linguistic intention is required. In general, we observed that left-lateralized processes linked to perceptual expertise for reading are task independent. Moreover, there was no hint of a word frequency effect in early ERPs, while …

Fertilization in Protozoa and Metazoan Animals: A Comparative Overview

2000

This review aims to summarize the information provided in this book and give an integrated view of the process of fertilization in two different and separate groups of eukaryotic organisms: protozoa and metazoan animals. As a summary/concluding chapter, this essay provides only a schematic synthesis of the topics treated in this book. For specific details, readers are referred to previous sections of this book as well as to the studies cited throughout this chapter. The rapid pace at which the field of fertilization advances, in particular the area of cell signalling, may render some of the concepts and conclusions laid down here obsolete by the time this review leaves the press. Being awar…

A reading of the Spanish Constitution (1978)

1991

The object of this paper is to examine the Spanish Constitution (1978) using the perspective of modern consitutional political economy. This exercise is an interesting one for two reasons: first it provides a kind of test for the usefulness of the c.p.e. approach and the insights the application of that approach yields; second, it provides an opportunity for a wider readership of a document that is of considerable interest in its own right.
