Tuning Java to Run Interactive Multiagent Simulations over Jason

2010

Java-based simulation environments are currently used by many multiagent systems (MAS), since they mainly provide portability as well as an interesting reduction of the development cost. However, this kind of MAS are rarely considered when developing interactive applications with time response constraints. This paper analyses the performance provided by Jason, a well-known Java-based MAS platform, as a suitable framework for developing interactive multiagent simulations. We show how to tune both the heap size and the garbage collection of the Java Virtual Machine in order to achieve a good performance while executing a simple locomotion benchmark based on crowd simulations. Furthermore, the…

Cause and duration of mustard incorporation effects on soil-borne plant pathogenic fungi

2009

International audience; Two fungal plant pathogens, Rhizoctonia solani AG 2-2 and Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. lini, were studied in relation to general responses of soil fungi and bacteria following incorporation of Brassica juncea. Our aim was to understand to what extent the changes in the biological and physicochemical characteristics of the soil could explain the effects on the studied pathogens and diseases, and to determine the temporal nature of the responses. Short-term effects of mustard incorporation (up to 4 months) were investigated in a microcosm experiment, and compared with a treatment where composted plant material was incorporated. In a field experiment, the responses were fol…

Symbolic Reductionist Model for Program Comprehension

2007

This article presents the main features of a novel construction, symbolic analysis, for automatic source code processing. The method is superior to the known methods, because it uses a semiotic, interpretative approach. Its most important processes and characteristics are considered here. We describe symbolic information retrieval and the process of analysis in which it can be used in order to obtain pragmatic information. This, in turn, is useful in understanding a current Java program version when developing a new version.

Design and Implementation of a Smart System to Control Aromatic Herb Dehydration Process

2020

Drying is a process aimed at reducing the water content in plant materials below a limit where the activity of microbes and decomposing enzymes deteriorate the quality of medicinal and aromatic plants. Today, the interest of consumers towards medicinal and aromatic herbs has registered a growing trend. This study aims at designing a low-cost real-time monitoring and control system for the drying process of aromatic herbs and evaluating drying efficacy on the microbial community associated with the studied herbs. Hot-air drying tests of sage and laurel leaves were carried out in a dryer desiccator cabinet at 40 &deg

NRTK, PPP or Static, That Is the Question. Testing Different Positioning Solutions for GNSS Survey

2021

Worldwide, the determination of the coordinates from a Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) survey (in Network Real Time Kinematic, Precise Point Positioning, or static mode) has been analysed in several scientific and technical applications. Many of those have been carried out to compare Precise Point Positioning (PPP), Network Real Time Kinematic (NRTK), and static modes’ solutions, usually, using the latter as the true or the most plausible solution. This approach is not always possible as the static mode solution depends on several parameters (baseline length, acquisition time, ionospheric, and tropospheric models, etc.) that must be considered to evaluate the accuracy of the metho…

Heterogeneity of Human Melanoma Cell Lines: a quantitative study of protein and mRNA expression profiles using Flow Cytometry and Real time PCR

2015

Home energy management system : a home energy management system under different electricity pricing mechanisms

2014

Masteroppgave i fornybar energi ENE 500 Universitetet i Agder 2014 Peak demand is a severe problem in the electricity grid and it was solved by supply side management in the past. But nowadays the demand side management sources have drawn attention due to the economic and environmental constraints. Demand side management in the domestic sector can play an important role in reducing the peak demand on the power system network. It can help in reducing stress and overloading on the transmission and distribution lines. In many countries there are various demand response programs implemented for industrial and commercial loads. In these programs load control is primarily achieved by various type…

Search for Lorentz and CPT violation using sidereal time dependence of neutrino flavor transitions over a short baseline

2017

A class of extensions of the Standard Model allows Lorentz and CPT violations, which can be identified by the observation of sidereal modulations in the neutrino interaction rate. A search for such modulations was performed using the T2K on-axis near detector. Two complementary methods were used in this study, both of which resulted in no evidence of a signal. Limits on associated Lorentz and CPT-violating terms from the Standard Model extension have been derived by taking into account their correlations in this model for the first time. These results imply such symmetry violations are suppressed by a factor of more than 1020 at the GeV scale.

Test of Lorentz and CPT violation with short baseline neutrino oscillation excesses

2011

The sidereal time dependence of MiniBooNE ν[subscript e] and ν[over-bar][subscript e] appearance data is analyzed to search for evidence of Lorentz and CPT violation. An unbinned Kolmogorov–Smirnov (K–S) test shows both the ν[subscript e] and ν[over-bar][subscript e] appearance data are compatible with the null sidereal variation hypothesis to more than 5%. Using an unbinned likelihood fit with a Lorentz-violating oscillation model derived from the Standard Model Extension (SME) to describe any excess events over background, we find that the ν[subscript e] appearance data prefer a sidereal time-independent solution, and the ν[over-bar][subscript e] appearance data slightly prefer a sidereal…
