Model of the catalyticA+B→0reaction with surface reconstruction

The $A+\stackrel{\ensuremath{\rightarrow}}{B}0$ reaction model with a surface reconstruction is analyzed. It is compared with another similar model for the ${A+1/2B}_{2}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}0$ reaction [V. N. Kuzovkov et al., J. Chem. Phys. 108, 5571 (1998)], which mimics the CO oxidation reaction on the Pt surfaces. The effect of monomer B adsorption instead of dimer ${B}_{2}$ is examined. It is shown that qualitative system features such as reactant concentration oscillations are independent of this substitution.

This paper proposes a study on the virtual reconstruction of temple B in Selinunte. It is the smallest of Selinunte’s temples yet, despite its size, it has been the subject of great interest and debate by scholars since its discovery in 1823. The studies carried out throughout the XIX century and the first half of the XX century provided different renderings, especially as to the organization of the elevation. A project named ”Virtual Museum Net of Magna Graecia” is presented, whose objective is to provide an unitary image of the archaeological heritage of Calabria (a Southern Italian region), through Computer Technology, Multimedia Designing and Virtual Reconstructions. The project aims to encourage the technological transfer of the most advanced researches in the exploitation and conservation sector of the Cultural Heritage. The ”Virtual Museum Net of Magna Graecia” project is included in the context of Knowledge Media Design for Museums. This project links the museum scenery and multimedia, in order to use technology as system of representation.

High Arctic ecosystems and Indigenous livelihoods are tightly linked and exposed to climate change, yet assessing their sensitivity requires a long-term perspective. Here, we assess the vulnerability of the North Water polynya, a unique seaice ecosystem that sustains the world’s northernmost Inuit communities and several keystone Arctic species. We reconstruct mid-to-late Holocene changes in sea ice, marine primary production, and little auk colony dynamics through multi-proxy analysis of marine and lake sediment cores. Given the increased interest in non-pollen palynomorphs (microscopic objects other than pollen identified from pollen slides) in palaeoecological studies, it is necessary to seek a deeper understanding of the reliability of these results. We combined quantitative information of algal pigments and sedimentary ancient DNA (sedaDNA) of phylotaxonomical resolution to validate the richness and abundance of fossil algae in the sediment of a small temperate lake. Digital holographic microscopy with pure-optical spherical phase compensation

Telecentric architecture is proposed for circumventing, by the pure-optical method, the residual parabolic phase distortion inherent to standard configuration of digital holographic microscopy. This optical circumvention produces several important advantages. One is that there is no need for computer compensation of the parabolic phase during the phase map recovering procedure. The other is that in off-axis configuration, the spatial frequency useful domain is enlarged. EEG data acquisition system based on asynchronous sigma-delta modulator

This paper describes a multichannel mobile EEG data acquisition system that consists of on-head sensors with built in electroencephalogram (EEG) signal amplifier, asynchronous sigma-delta modulator (ASDM) for analog to digital conversion and 434MHz On-Off keying (OOK) wireless data transmitter. A prototype circuit has been designed and fabricated in a 11×16mm cylinder package. After receiving the signal, appropriate processing is applied in order to reconstruct the brain wave signals.

Defense versus Opulence? An Appraisal of the Malthus-Ricardo 1815 Controversy on the Corn Laws

This article proposes a rational reconstruction of the arguments of Malthus and Ricardo in their 1815 essays, Grounds of an Opinion and An Essay on Profits, whereby a policy of free corn trade was repudiated and endorsed, respectively. Malthus envisaged defense and (trade-induced) opulence as two mutually alternative options and, if required to make a choice, he had no hesitation in choosing the former. By contrast, Ricardo excluded any such trade-off, arguing that even in the case of war or poor domestic harvest, foreign agricultural countries would be seriously damaged if they opted for restrictions on their corn exports to Great Britain.
