Benthic foraminifera as indicators of relative sea-level fluctuations: Paleoenvironmental and paleoclimatic reconstruction of a Holocene marine succe…

2017

This study presents the results of an integrated stratigraphic analysis conducted on a marine gravity core (MSK-12 C4) recovered from the outer continental shelf (82 mwater depth) of western Calabria, ~2.6 km, NE of Capo Vaticano (Eastern Tyrrhenian margin). The gravity core MSK-12 C4 recovered a stratigraphic succession of 4.18 m beneath the seafloor representing the last ~11.1 ka. Sedimentological analysis, micropaleontological quantitative analysis on benthic foraminiferal assemblages, tephrostratigraphy, sequence stratigraphic analysis of high resolution reflection seismic data recorded in the core site area and AMS 14C absolute age determinations allowed reconstructing the marine recor…

Modelling regional-scale attenuation across Italy and the Tyrrhenian Sea

2021

Abstract Modelling regional-scale attenuation of seismic waves at ~1 Hz is challenging, especially when these waves propagate across both continental and oceanic crust. Recent developments in seismic imaging and modelling have provided us with the computational tools necessary to reconstruct these mixed settings using deterministic (coherent) and stochastic (coda) information. Here, we present new tomographic maps of coda-attenuation for both the Italian peninsula and the Tyrrhenian Sea. Kernel-based coda attenuation imaging in the diffusive approximation is tested in the oceanic environment, highlighting a non-diffusive behaviour across the Southern Tyrrhenian Sea. Joint deterministic and …

L?escrutini de la Batllia General de València durant la visita general de Pedro de la Gasca (1543-1545)

2019

Master?s Final Project is aimed at illustrating the situation that the general Bailiwick of València experienced within the firs half of the sixteenth century, starting from the reconstruction of the general visit process carried out by Pedro de la Gasca, as well as the consequences it implied for the institution.

Implementation and performance of the ATLAS second level jet trigger

2008

ATLAS is one of the four major LHC experiments, designed to cover a wide range of physics topics. In order to cope with a rate of 40 MHz and 25 interactions per bunch crossing, the ATLAS trigger system is divided in three different levels. The first one (LVL1, hardware based) identifies signatures in 2 microseconds that are confirmed by the the following trigger levels (software based). The Second Level Trigger (LVL2) only looks at a region of the space around the LVL1 signature (called Region of Interest or ROI), confirming/rejecting the event in about 10 ms, while the Event Filter (Third Level Trigger, EF) has potential full event access and larger processing times, of the order of 1 s. Connessioni e stratificazioni della forma urbana. Le tracce degli anfiteatri romani e le loro risignificazioni

2020

Starting from the survey of the remains of Termini Imerese Roman Amphitheater and considering both its virtual reconfiguration and the architectural events that have seen the succession of different urban stratifications and re-significations, we have concentrated our interest on the cases that have determined the changes in shape and the archaeological sedimentations of some amphitheatres in Italy and Europe. From these preliminary operations the investigation work was carried out on Palermo, wanting to verify - through the survey and the redrawing of the urban fabric - the compatibility of the most recent hypotheses of location of the buildings for spectacles in the Panormus of the Roman …

The object of study is the disappeared Rione Conceria inside the Historical Center of Palerm…

On using prototype reduction schemes to optimize locally linear reconstruction methods

2012

Authors version of an article published in the journal: Pattern Recognition. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.patcog.2011.06.021 This paper concerns the use of prototype reduction schemes (PRS) to optimize the computations involved in typical k-nearest neighbor (k-NN) rules. These rules have been successfully used for decades in statistical pattern recognition (PR) [1,15] applications and are particularly effective for density estimation, classification, and regression because of the known error bounds that they possess. For a given data point of unknown identity, the k-NN possesses the phenomenon that it combines the information about the samples from a pri…

“Piero Sraffa: economic reality, the economist and economic theory. An interpretation”.

2007

We carry out a textual analysis of Sraffa's main published contributions to pure economics in order to elaborate a rational reconstruction of an aspect of Sraffa's implicit methodology which has not yet been duly investigated. We refer to the threefold relationship between ‘economic reality’, ‘the economist/observer’ and ‘economic theory’. We elucidate the constraints which, for Sraffa, should bind the economists' arbitrariness and we trace the elements of continuity and evolution from the 1925–6 critique of Marshallian economics to Production of Commodities.
