Comparison of parallel implementation of some multi-level Schwarz methods for singularly perturbed parabolic problems

Abstract Parallel multi-level algorithms combining a time discretization and an overlapping domain decomposition technique are applied to the numerical solution of singularly perturbed parabolic problems. Two methods based on the Schwarz alternating procedure are considered: a two-level method with auxiliary “correcting” subproblems as well as a three-level method with auxiliary “predicting” and “correcting” subproblems. Moreover, modifications of the methods using time extrapolation on subdomain interfaces are investigated. Deletion of phenylalanine at position 508 (F508del) in the CFTR protein, is the most common mutation causing cystic fibrosis (CF). F508del causes misfolding and rapid degradation of CFTR protein a defect that can be targeted with pharmacological agents termed “correctors”. Correctors belong to various chemical classes but are generally small molecules based on nitrogen sulfur or oxygen heterocycles. The mechanism of action of correctors is generally unknown but there is experimental evidence that some of them can directly act on mutant CFTR improving folding and stability. Abstract Background The erector spinae plane (ESP) block has recently been shown to effectively alleviate postoperative pain and reduce opioid consumption in breast surgery patients. However, data are still limited concerning the quality of recovery in patients following this procedure. Methods This study was a randomized controlled trial (RCT) performed in a university hospital. We randomly allocated patients to one of three groups: ESP, SHAM, and control (CON). Procedures in the ESP and SHAM blocks were performed ipsilaterally with 0.375% ropivacaine or 0.9% saline (0.4 mL/kg).
