ICUD-EAU International Consultation on Bladder Cancer 2012: Non–Muscle-Invasive Urothelial Carcinoma of the Bladder

2012

Item does not contain fulltext CONTEXT: Our aim was to present a summary of the Second International Consultation on Bladder Cancer recommendations on the diagnosis and treatment options for non-muscle-invasive urothelial cancer of the bladder (NMIBC) using an evidence-based approach. OBJECTIVE: To critically review the recent data on the management of NMIBC to arrive at a general consensus. EVIDENCE ACQUISITION: A detailed Medline analysis was performed for original articles addressing the treatment of NMIBC with regard to diagnosis, surgery, intravesical chemotherapy, and follow-up. Proceedings from the last 5 yr of major conferences were also searched. EVIDENCE SYNTHESIS: The major findi…

Treatment of early childhood medulloblastoma by postoperative chemotherapy alone.

2005

The prognosis for young children with medulloblastoma is poor, and survivors are at high risk for cognitive deficits. We conducted a trial of the treatment of this brain tumor by intensive postoperative chemotherapy alone. After surgery, children received three cycles of intravenous chemotherapy (cyclophosphamide, vincristine, methotrexate, carboplatin, and etoposide) and intraventricular methotrexate. Treatment was terminated if a complete remission was achieved. Leukoencephalopathy and cognitive deficits were evaluated.Forty-three children were treated according to protocol. In children who had complete resection (17 patients), residual tumor (14), and macroscopic metastases (12), the five…

Recurrence quantification analysis as a tool for complex fractionated atrial electrogram discrimination

2012

International audience; Atrial fibrillation is the most encountered pathology of the heart rate. The reasons of its occurrence and its particular characteristics remain unknown, resulting from complex phenomena interaction. From these interactions emerges Complex Fractionated Atrial Electrograms (CFAE) which are useful for the ablation procedure. This study presents a method based on nonlinear data analysis, the Recurrence Quantification Analysis (RQA) applied on intracardiac atrial electrograms to detect CFAE particularities. The results obtained on areas previously tagged by a cardilogist show a good sensitivity to CFAE. Combination of RQA features offers a larger discrimination potential…

EP1168 The influence of obesity on tumor recurrence in vulvar cancer patients

2019

Introduction/Background Obesity is associated with decrased survival in several cancer entities. The influence of obesity on prognosis of vulvar cancer patients is not clear. However, knowledge about this may have consequences on treatment and follow-up. Methodology This is an analysis of the large AGO-CaRE-1 study which included vulvar cancer patients (UICC stage IB and higher), treated in 29 cancer centers between 1998 and 2008, in order to analyze treatment patterns and prognostic factors. Results In total, 849 eligible patients were divided into two groups depending on their body mass index (BMI, 0.05). Radical vulvectomies were performed more frequently in patients having a BMI ≥30 kg/…

Organerhaltende Chirurgie des Nierenzellkarzinoms: Operative Technik, Ergebnisse, Komplikationen

2008

Abstract Operative method, course and complications were analysed retrospectively in 120 patients in whom a kidney tumour had been resected without nephrectomy. In 49 patients (18 women and 31 men, mean age 59 [38-77] years; 45 renal-cell carcinomas, 4 benign renal tumours) there was an "imperative indication" for an organ-preserving operation, because nephrectomy would have made dialysis obligatory. In 74 patients with a healthy contralateral kidney (25 women, 49 men, mean age 55 [31-74] years; 61 renal-cell carcinomas, 13 benign tumours) the tumour was enucleated by choice; 55 of these patients were symptom-free. 36 of 49 patients with an imperative indication are without sign of tumour p…

The non-surgical management for hemorrhoidal disease. A systematic review

2017

The non-surgical treatments for hemorrhoids are cost and time-saving techniques usually performed in patients suffering early hemorrhoidal disease. The most used are rubber band ligation (RBL), injection sclerotherapy (IS), and infrared coagulation (IRC). We performed a systematic review in order to evaluate: do these procedures really help to avoid further more aggressive treatments? What are the common harms? What are the rare harms? How many recurrences there are? A total of 21 RCTs were included in this review: 12 on RBL, 4 on IRC and 5 on IS. In RBL bleeding stops in up to 90% and III degree hemorrhoids improves in 78%-83.8%. IV degree prolapse should have a more invasive treatment. Th…

Endoscopic Treatment of Intracranial Arachnoid Cysts: A Retrospective Analysis of a 25-Year Experience.

2020

Background Since the development of neuroendoscopy, pure endoscopic fenestration for intracranial arachnoid cysts (ACs) became more and more popular and is actually preferred by many neurosurgeons. Objective To explore their techniques and experiences with endoscopic treatment of intracranial ACs over a 25-yr period. Methods A total of 95 endoscopic procedures in 87 patients with 88 intracranial ACs performed at the authors' departments between February 1993 and October 2018 were retrospectively analyzed. Particular respect was given to surgical technique, complications, patients' outcome, and radiological benefit in relation to cyst location. Results Patients' ages ranged from 23 d to 81 y…

Can Early Postoperative O-(2-18FFluoroethyl)-l-Tyrosine Positron Emission Tomography After Resection of Glioblastoma Predict the Location of Later Tu…

2019

Objective Glioblastoma inevitably recurs despite aggressive therapy. Therefore, it would be helpful to predict the location of tumor recurrence from postoperative imaging to customize further treatment. O-(2-18Ffluoroethyl)- l -tyrosine (FET) positron emission tomography (PET) might be a helpful technique, because tumor tissue can be differentiated from normal brain tissue with high specificity. Methods Thirty-two consecutive patients with perioperative and follow-up imaging data available were included. On postoperative FET-PET, the tumor/normal brain (TTB) ratio around the resection cavity borders was measured. Increased TTB ratios were recorded and anatomically correlated with the site o…
