Search for the Rare Leptonic Decay B+→μ+νμ

2004

A search for the rare leptonic decay with data collected at the resonance by the BABAR experiment was carried out. The decay rate was sensitive to the product of the Cabibbo Kobayashi Maskawa matrix element (Vub and the B decay constant fb, which was propotional to the wave function for zero separation between the quarks. The data used in the analysis was collectd with BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage ring and the sample consisted of an integrity luminosity of 81.4 fb-1. The systematic uncertainty in the signal efficiency was evaluated which included the muon candidate selection and the reconstruction efficiency of the companion B.

Modelling and optimization of a passive structural control design for a spar-type floating wind turbine

2014

Abstract Compared with fixed-bottom installation, deep water floating wind turbine has to undergo more severe structural loads due to extra degrees of freedom. Aiming for effective load reduction, this paper deals with the evaluation of a passive structural control design for a spar-type floating wind turbine, and the proposed strategy is to install a tuned mass damper (TMD) into the spar platform. Firstly, a mathematical model for wind turbine surge-heave-pitch motion is established based on the D’Alembert’s principle of inertial forces. Then, parameter estimation is performed by comparing the outputs from the proposed model and the state-of-the-art simulator. Further, different optimizati…

Efficacy of ozonized water for the treatment of erosive oral lichen planus : a randomized controlled study

2020

Background Management of erosive Oral Lichen Planus (eOLP) is challenging. Currently, topical corticosteroids are widely used as first-line therapy, but they might be associated with side-effects and incomplete clinical response. Among non-pharmacological strategies, ozone at low medical concentration has proven to induce a mild activation of protective anti-oxidant pathways, thus exerting therapeutic effects in many inflammatory diseases. The aim of this randomized controlled study was to investigate the effectiveness of ozonized water in association with conventional topical corticosteroids for the treatment of eOLP. Material and Methods Fifty-one patients were included in the study and r…

Electrochemical and chemical reduction of niobocene dichlorides in the presence of carbon dioxide

1995

Abstract The chemical and electrochemical reduction of the niobocene dichlorides [Nb(η5-C5H4SiMe3)2Cl2]1, [Nb(η5-C5Me5)2Cl2] 2 and [Nb(η5-C5Me4Et)2Cl2] 3, in the presence of carbon dioxide has been investigated. Formation of compounds of the type [Cp2Nb(CO2)] and [Cp2(∗)NbCl(CO2))] 1 has been established by means of IR, ESR and/or NMR spectroscopy. They contain a labile η2-CO2. The order of stability increases with the degree of substitution the Cp. Less stable intermediates in the reduction of the system [Cp2NbCl2]/CO2 are discussed on the basis of cyclovoltammetric and coulometric data.

Inverse solvent effects in the heterogeneous and homogeneous epoxidation of cis-2-heptene with [2-percarboxyethyl]-functionalized silica and meta-chl…

2014

The rate constants for the epoxidation of cis-2-heptene with [2-percarboxyethyl]-functionalized silica (1a) and meta-chloroperbenzoic acid (mCPBA) (1b) in different solvents have been determined at temperatures in the −10 to 40 °C range. The heterogeneous epoxidation exhibits a dependence of the reaction rate on solvent polarity opposite to its homogeneous counterpart and anomalous activation parameters in n-hexane, which are interpreted in terms of the surface-promoted solvent structure at the solid–liquid interface. The results show that highly polar solvents can strongly inhibit heterogeneous reactions performed with silica-supported reagents or catalysts.

Stereoselective cathodic synthesis of 8-substituted (1R,3R,4S)-menthylamines.

2015

The electrochemical generation of menthylamines from the corresponding menthone oximes equipped with an additional substituent in position 8 is described. Due to 1,3-diaxial interactions a pronounced diastereoselectivity for the menthylamines is found.

Corticotomy-assisted orthodontics

2011

The use of orthodontic treatment in adult patients is becoming more common and these patients have different requirements specially regarding duration of treatment and facial and dental aesthetics. Alveolar corticotomy is an effective means of accelerating orthodontic treatment. This literature revision include an historical background, biological and orthodontic fundamentals and the most significant clinical applications of this technique. Orthodontic treatment time is reduced with this technique to one-third of that in conventional orthodontics. Alveolar bone grafting of labial and palatal/lingual surfaces ensures root coverage as the dental arch is expanded. Corticotomy-assisted orthodon…

Etiology, Modalities of Zygomaticomaxillary Complex Fracture, open reduction and fixation.

2020

Background Zygomatic complex fracture is second most common mid face fracture and frequent amongst the maxillofacial trauma. Fracture pattern ranges from simple to comminuted and from minimally displaced to severely displaced depending on various factors. Material and methods 98 patients with zygomaticomaxillary complex fracture reporting during December 2017 to January 2020 were included in the study. On the basis of radiographic evaluation and computerized tomography scan (CT scan) with 3D reconstruction severity of fracture was assessed and different treatment options were selected. Results Road traffic accident accounted as the leading cause of fracture (57.1%) followed by self-fall (16…

Customised pressure profiles of made-to-measure sports compression garments

2021

AbstractThe purpose of this study was to make made-to-measure compression garments that elicit pressures within and below clinical standards. The study also examined whether pressures and gradients can be replicated within and between participants’ legs, and between separate compression garment conditions. Ten males volunteered to participate. Based on three-dimensional scans of the participants’ lower body, three different made-to-measure garments were manufactured: control, symmetrical and asymmetrical. Garment pressures were assessed from the malleolus to the gluteal fold using a pressure monitoring device. A root mean squared difference analysis was used to calculate the in vivo linear …

Bone remodeling in malunited fractures in children. Is it reliable?

1997

Fracture malunion is not a rare phenomenon in children due to the frequent use of closed reduction treatments. In this article, the processes of bone remodeling in cases of angular and rotational deformities, overriding of bone fragments, and overgrowth are addressed. Critical analyses of the mechanisms to correct these deformities, function of the physis and periosteum, and other related factors are given. The acceptable deformities for complete remodeling to be successful vary at different ages and locations.
