Comparison of Intensity-based B-splines and Point-to-Pixel Tracking Techniques for Motion Reduction in Optical Mapping

2016

Suppression of motion artifacts (MA) in cardiac optical mapping usually requires uncoupling of cardiac contraction by restriction techniques, which are known to have important effects on cardiac physiology deteriorating the quality of acquisitions and their interpretation. In this study, we propose to assess the performance of two independent intensity-based post-processing strategies to minimize MAs during registration. A point-to-pixel block-matching classical similarity-based tracking with displacement interpolation is compared to a well-known non-rigid registration algorithm where the deformation field is obtained using cubic splines. Both strategies were tested on synthetic and real op…

An Online Metric Learning Approach through Margin Maximization

2011

This work introduces a method based on learning similarity measures between pairs of objects in any representation space that allows to develop convenient recognition algorithms. The problem is formulated through margin maximization over distance values so that it can discriminate between similar (intra-class) and dissimilar (inter-class) elements without enforcing positive definiteness of the metric matrix as in most competing approaches. A passive-aggressive approach has been adopted to carry out the corresponding optimization procedure. The proposed approach has been empirically compared to state of the art metric learning on several publicly available databases showing its potential bot…

Central dislocation of the jaw-joint into the middle cranial fossa

1981

Summary The authors' case of central dislocation of the jaw-joint is used to discuss the incidence, mechanism of causation and the problems of clinical diagnosis, and the possible lines of treatment are listed. The management of the central dislocation in our case consisted of surgical reduction of the articular process by means of traction with hooked retractors over a fulcrum in the molar region.

An interface protection system based on an embedded metrology system platform

2021

Abstract The aim of this work is to present an interface protection system (IPS) for Distributed Generators (DG) and Energy Storage Systems (ESS). The new prototype of IPS guarantees standard protection requirements, in terms of both voltage and frequency measurement accuracies and trip times. Moreover, it has the additional functionalities of implementing a communication link between the Distribution System Operator (DSO) and the DG and ESS Inverter. The new IPS is based on a smart meter platform with an integrated power line communication modem. Moreover, it has also an integrated metrology section. Experimental tests will show how this last feature allows a significant reduction of the m…

Selective oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane over SnO2-promoted NiO catalysts

2012

[EN] Ni-Sn-O mixed oxides catalysts have been investigated for the oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane. The catalysts were prepared through the evaporation of aqueous solutions of nickel nitrate and tin oxalate and finally calcined in air at 500 degrees C for 2 h. These materials have been characterized by several techniques (N-2-adsorption, X-ray diffraction, High-Resolution Electron Microscopy, temperature programmed reduction, X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy, Fourier Transformed Infrared Spectroscopy of adsorbed CO and O-18/O-16 isotope exchange). The addition of just a tiny amount of tin highly increases the selectivity to ethylene (from ca. 40% to 80-90%). Thus, high selectivity to et…

Salient Pixels and Dimensionality Reduction for Display of Multi/Hyperspectral Images

2012

International audience; Dimensionality Reduction (DR) of spectral images is a common approach to different purposes such as visualization, noise removal or compression. Most methods such as PCA or band selection use either the entire population of pixels or a uniformly sampled subset in order to compute a projection matrix. By doing so, spatial information is not accurately handled and all the objects contained in the scene are given the same emphasis. Nonetheless, it is possible to focus the DR on the separation of specific Objects of Interest (OoI), simply by neglecting all the others. In PCA for instance, instead of using the variance of the scene in each spectral channel, we show that i…

Analytical evaluation of structural response for stationary multicorrelated input

1990

Abstract An analytical procedure is presented which can drastically reduce computational effort in the evaluation of the spectral moments of an elastic linear multi-degree-of-freedom system subjected to a stationary multicorrelated input process. The reduction in computer time is possible since the cross-spectral moments of two oscillators can be obtained in recursive manner as a linear combination of the spectral moment of each oscillator taken separately, which is evaluated by means of a very fast numerical technique.

Charged Tags for the Identification of Oxidative Drug Metabolites Based on Electrochemistry and Mass Spectrometry

2020

Abstract Most of the active pharmaceutical ingredients like Metoprolol are oxidatively metabolized by liver enzymes, such as Cytochrome P450 monooxygenases into oxygenates and therefore hydrophilic products. It is of utmost importance to identify the metabolites and to gain knowledge on their toxic impacts. By using electrochemistry, it is possible to mimic enzymatic transformations and to identify metabolic hot spots. By introducing charged‐tags into the intermediate, it is possible to detect and isolate metabolic products. The identification and synthesis of initially oxidized metabolites are important to understand possible toxic activities. The gained knowledge about the metabolism will…

Guarana seed extracts as a useful strategy to extend the shelf life of pork patties: UHPLC-ESI/QTOF phenolic profile and impact on microbial inactiva…

2018

Abstract The antioxidant and antimicrobial effects of guarana seed extracts (GSE) added to pork patties were evaluated for 18 days storage at 2 ± 1 °C. Five treatments were prepared: i) without natural antioxidant [control (negative control)], ii) with BHT at 200 mg/kg (positive control), and iii) with three different concentrations: 250  mg/kg (guarana seed low dose-GSL), 500  mg/kg (guarana seed medium dose-GSM) and 1000  mg/kg (guarana seed high dose-GSH) of guarana extracts, respectively. The pH, instrumental colour (CIE L*, a*, b*), total viable counts (TVC), Pseudomonas spp. counts and lactic acid bacteria (LAB) counts, 2-thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) and carbonyl co…
