Impact of oxydoreduction potential on biosynthesis of volatile compounds in acid skim milk gel: identification and quantification
2008
International audience; Oxydoreduction potential (Eh) is an environmental parameter which defines balances between oxidant species (acceptors of electrons) and reduced species (donors of electrons) of a medium. It may modify the growth capacity of microorganisms, the metabolic fluxes, participate to the quality of fermented products (2, 6, 7) and affect the production and/or stability of volatile compounds (3,5).
2016
Considering the predicted scenarios of climate change for the near future, Mediterranean vineyards, may face substantial shifts in precipitation, atmospheric conditions and temperature, resulting in higher winter rainfall, together with drier and hotter summers. All potentially contributing to an uncoupling of technological and phenolic ripeness in Vitis vinifera grapevines, due to berry ripening taking place in the hottest month of the year, resulting in wines with high alcohol content and low titratable acidity. A reduced sugar accumulation rate in the berry may delay berry maturation and subsequently counteract these effects. The aim of this study was to delay berry maturation in cv Merl…
Connections Between Single-Level and Bilevel Multiobjective Optimization
2011
The relationship between bilevel optimization and multiobjective optimization has been studied by several authors and there have been repeated attempts to establish a link between the two. We unify the results from the literature and generalize them for bilevel multiobjective optimization. We formulate sufficient conditions for an arbitrary binary relation to guarantee equality between the efficient set produced by the relation and the set of optimal solutions to a bilevel problem. In addition, we present specially structured bilevel multiobjective optimization problems motivated by real-life applications and an accompanying binary relation permitting their reduction to single-level multiob…
Electrochemical and Spectroelectrochemical Properties of Free-Base Pyridyl- and N -Alkyl-4-Pyridylporphyrins in Nonaqueous Media
2015
International audience; Twelve structurally related pyridyl and meso-N-methylpyridylporphyrin derivatives are investigated electrochemically in different nonaqueous media. The UV/Vis spectrum of each newly investigated porphyrin was measured before and after electro-reduction and, based on this data, the site of electron transfer is proposed. An interaction occurs between the meso-pyridyl or meso-N-alkyl-4-pyridyl substituents and the porphyrin p-ring system, the magnitude of which depends upon the number of linked pyridyl or N-alkyl-4-pyridyl groups in the compound, the solvent, the supporting electrolyte, and/or other anions added to the solution.
The catalytic mechanism of glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate dehydrogenase from Trypanosoma cruzi elucidated via the QM/MM approach
2013
Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) has been identified as a key enzyme involved in glycolysis processes for energy production in the Trypanosoma cruzi parasite. This enzyme catalyses the oxidative phosphorylation of glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate (G3P) in the presence of inorganic phosphate (Pi) and nicotinamide adenosine dinucleotide (NAD+). The catalytic mechanism used by GAPDH has been intensively investigated. However, the individual roles of Pi and the C3 phosphate of G3P (Ps) sites, as well as some residues such as His194 in the catalytic mechanism, remain unclear. In this study, we have employed Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulations within hybrid quantum mechanical/molecular …
Exploiting the Redox Activity of MIL-100(Fe) Carrier Enables Prolonged Carvacrol Antimicrobial Activity
2022
The design of efficient food contact materials that maintain optimal levels of food safety is of paramount relevance to reduce the increasing number of foodborne illnesses. In this work, we develop a smart composite metal-organic framework (MOF)-based material that fosters a unique prolonged antibacterial activity. The composite is obtained by entrapping a natural food preserving molecule, carvacrol, into a mesoporous MIL-100(Fe) material following a direct and biocompatible impregnation method, and obtaining particularly high payloads. By exploiting the intrinsic redox nature of the MIL-100(Fe) material, it is possible to achieve a prolonged activity against Escherichia coli and Listeria i…
Less Data Same Information for Event-Based Sensors: A Bioinspired Filtering and Data Reduction Algorithm
2018
Sensors provide data which need to be processed after acquisition to remove noise and extract relevant information. When the sensor is a network node and acquired data are to be transmitted to other nodes (e.g., through Ethernet), the amount of generated data from multiple nodes can overload the communication channel. The reduction of generated data implies the possibility of lower hardware requirements and less power consumption for the hardware devices. This work proposes a filtering algorithm (LDSI&mdash
Changes of morphogenic competence in mature Pinus sylvestris L. buds in vitro.
2002
The effects of season and cold storage on morphogenic competence in mature Pinus sylvestris buds were investigated. Peroxidase and polyphenol oxidase activity were measured as markers of oxidative metabolism. No growth in vitro was observed on explants detached from the end of January until the beginning of March. Brachioblasts, each with a couple of needles, formed on 11 % of the buds without macrostrobili that were detached in early April and introduced immediately into culture. Of the explants detached in late July, 15 % formed shoots with brachioblasts and needles. The lowest activity of peroxidase and polyphenol oxidase in pine buds was observed from the end of April until the beginnin…
