PO-0779 Which Parameters Are Mandatory In Urinary Tract Infection In Children?

2014

Background The protocol of investigations in urinary tract infection (UTI) in children mandatory includes urianalysis, uroculture, reactive C protein (RCP), blood urea (BUN), renal ultrasonography and scintigraphy. Each one of these has limits to perform in children. Aims To establish the correlations between UTI investigations for argumentation the therapeutic decision. Methods Retrospective study of hospitalised paediatric patients for UTI. The study parameters were: age, symptoms, RCP, BUN, uroculture, renal ultrasonography, urinanalysis (leukocytes, nitrites, pH, density, proteins, erythrocytes, ascorbic acid-AA). Results Were studied 243 hospitalised and treated with antibiotics UTI. U…

Sezernierter Interleukin-2-Rezeptor als Aktivitätsparameter der Sarkoidose*

2008

Serum sIL-2-R levels were measured in 28 sarcoidosis patients at multiple time points before, during, and after therapy, with a mean follow-up time of 10.2 +/- 5.2 months, and the results compared with the clinical activity of the disease. Before therapy, 20 out of 24 episodes with active disease exhibited elevated levels of sIL-2-R (918 +/- 362 U/ml). In inactive disease after tapering off corticoid therapy the sIL-2-R levels were 453 +/- 274 U/ml. Disease activity under therapy also correlated with sIL-2-R serum levels. 23 out of 29 episodes with signs of activity under therapy had elevated sIL-2-R levels (808 +/- 409 U/ml). Only three of 28 patients in whom disease activity ceased after …

Kinder und Jugendliche mit neurogener Blasenfunktionsstrung

2004

After the failure of conservative treatment in patients with neurogenic bladders, urinary diversion is a viable compromise between the urologist's concerns and the patient's desire, as the upper urinary tract can be protected in the long-term and high continence rates can be provided. This can be achieved with an acceptable complication rate. Our indications for orthotopic bladder augmentation or substitution involve patients with a good orthopedic condition and mobility, who find it easy to perform CISC through the urethra. A continent umbilical stoma offers a good alternative in obese, immobile or wheelchair bound patients. The serous lined extramural tunnel technique has proven to be sup…

Knowledge of neurologists and gynaecologists regarding reproductive and maternity issues in women with epilepsy

2018

Background: Epilepsy is one of the most common neurological disorders, with more than 400,000 individuals in Poland (about 1% of the population) affected. Epilepsy complicates approximately 0.5% of pregnancies. Objective: To determine the level of knowledge that neurologists and gynaecologists have about reproductive and maternity issues for women with epilepsy. Material and methods: This study included 141 neurologists and physicians undergoing specialist training in neurology as well as 72 gynaecologists and physicians undergoing specialist training in gynaecology. A validated questionnaire was used to survey these neurologists and gynaecologists, who worked in Silesia Province. Results: …

Vaccinare per HPV: non solo le adolescenti e non solo profilassi. Review e position paper dell'Italian HPV Study Group (IHSG)

2020

HPV vaccination has been introduced in clinical practice in recent years and represents the most effective strategy of primary prevention of cervical carcinoma and of female genital preneoplastic conditions. One of the major issues of the subject is represented by vaccination coverage of the target population. Since its introduction, HPV vaccine efficacy has been progressively demonstrated also towards extragenital HPV-correlated conditions and in males too. Moreover, even subjects of older age groups or subjects who already had HPV infections have been demonstrated to received benefits from vaccination, due to improvements of their immunological response. Recently, vaccine efficacy has als…

Evaluation of the Burden of HPV-Related Hospitalizations as a Useful Tool to Increase Awareness: 2007–2017 Data from the Sicilian Hospital Discharge …

2020

In light of the implementation of human papillomavirus (HPV) prevention strategies, epidemiological studies in different geographical areas are required in order to assess the impact of HPV-related diseases. The purpose of the present study was to describe the burden of HPV-related hospitalizations in Sicily. A retrospective observational study estimated 43,531 hospitalizations attributable to HPV from 2007 to 2017. During the observed period, there was a decrease for all HPV-related conditions with a higher reduction, among neoplasms, for cervical cancer (annual percent change (APC) = &minus

Prenatal exposure to persistent organic pollutants and rapid weight gain and overweight in infancy

2013

Objective To examine the effects of prenatal exposure to persistent organic pollutants (POPs) on rapid growth in the first 6 months of life and overweight at 14 months of age. Design and Methods In a Spanish birth cohort study, the POPs dichlorodiphenyldichloroethylene (DDE), hexachlorobenzene (HCB), and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs—congeners 153, 138, 180) were measured in maternal serum collected in the first trimester of pregnancy during 2003–2008. Rapid growth was defined as a z-score weight gain >0.67 SD between 6 months of age and birth. Overweight at 14 months was defined as a BMI z-score ≥85th percentile. Generalized linear models examined the association between POPs and rapid g…

Glutathione, GlutathioneS-Transferase α and π, and Aldehyde Dehydrogenase Content in Relationship to Drug Resistance in Ovarian Cancer

1997

Glutathione, glutathione S-transferases alpha and pi, and aldehyde dehydrogenase are associated with resistance to carboplatin and/or cyclophosphamide in cell lines. Therefore, we examined whether the expression of these factors in ovarian cancer tissue specimens is associated with resistance of the patients to combination chemotherapy with cyclophosphamide/carboplatin. Ovarian cancer tissue specimens were taken intraoperatively from 139 patients and frozen in liquid nitrogen, and the contents of glutathione S-transferases alpha and pi, total glutathione, and aldehyde dehydrogenase activity were determined. No association between the levels of glutathione S-transferases alpha and pi or alde…
