A study on The Factors Affecting Merger and Acquisition Decision In Nepalese Banking Sector

2016

Master's thesis Business Administration BE501 - University of Agder 2016 The main purpose of this study is to find out the factors that would lead to making decision regarding going for merger and acquisition among the banks in Nepalese banking sector. This thesis finds out various factors that would affect merger and acquisition decision in banking sector based upon previous studies, and tries to check whether these are significant in case of Nepalese banking sector or not. Four theories: neo-classical, agency, behavioral and resource dependency; have been taken into consideration for purpose of finding out factors affecting decision to go for merger and acquisition. Based upon the previou…

The purpose of the Chapter is to examine the contribution of the Constitutional Court and the administrative judge for the use of better regulation tools in adoption of legislative and regulatory acts in Italy in 2020.

The effects of α-secretase ADAM10 on the proteolysis of neuregulin-1

2009

Although ADAM10 is a major alpha-secretase involved in non-amyloidogenic processing of the amyloid precursor protein, several additional substrates have been identified, most of them in vitro. Thus, therapeutical approaches for the prevention of Alzheimer's disease by upregulation of this metalloproteinase may have severe side effects. In the present study, we examined whether the ErbB receptor ligand neuregulin-1, which is essential for myelination and other important neuronal functions, is cleaved by ADAM10. Studies with beta- and gamma-secretase inhibitors, as well as with the metalloproteinase inhibitor GM6001, revealed an inhibition of neuregulin-1 processing in human astroglioma cell …

Self-regulation, especially the regulation of emotion, is an important component of athletic performance. In our study, we tested the effect of a self-distancing strategy on athletes’ performance in an aggression-inducing experimental task in the laboratory. To this end, we modified an established paradigm of interpersonal provocation [Taylor Aggression Paradigm (TAP)], which has the potential to complement field studies in order to increase our understanding of effective emotion regulation of athletes in critical situations in competitions. In our experimental setting, we first tested the applicability of the self-distancing perspective and the athletes’ ability to dynamically adapt beside…

BER, MGMT, and MMR in defense against alkylation-induced genotoxicity and apoptosis

2001

Methylating carcinogens and cytostatic drugs induce different methylation products in DNA. In cells not expressing the repair protein MGMT or expressing it at a low level, O6-methylguanine is the major genotoxic, recombinogenic, and apoptotic lesion. Genotoxicity and apoptosis triggered by O6-methylguanine require mismatch repair (MMR). In cells expressing O6-methylguanine-DNA methyl transferase (MGMT) at a high level or for agents producing low amounts of O6-methylguanine, N-alkylations become the major genotoxic lesions. N-Alkylations are repaired by base excision repair (BER). In mammalian cells, naturally occurring mutants of BER have not been detected, which points to the importance of…

Activity and body orientation of Gallotia galloti in different habitats and daily times

2011

Abstract In lizards, site selection is related to the acquisition of resources such as refuges, mates or prey, but also to the exploitation of sites suitable for thermoregulation. The latter process may be affected by lizard posture and body axis orientation in relation to the sun as a way to optimize heat exchange throughout the day. Specific postures and body orientations could also contribute to more efficient signal transmission in social contexts. In this paper we analyze activity and body axis orientation of adult males and females of the lacertid Gallotia galloti in two localities of Tenerife with different structural habitats. We performed transects at both sampling localities in t…

THERMOREGULATION CONSTRAINS EFFECTIVE WARNING SIGNAL EXPRESSION

2009

Evolution of conspicuous signals may be constrained if animal coloration has nonsignaling as well as signaling functions. In aposematic wood tiger moth (Parasemia plantaginis) larvae, the size of a warning signal (orange patch on black body) varies phenotypically and genetically. Although a large warning signal is favored as an antipredator defense, we hypothesized that thermoregulation may constrain the signal size in colder habitats. To test this hypothesis, we conducted a factorial rearing experiment with two selection lines for larval coloration (small and large signal) and with two temperature manipulations (high and low temperature environment). Temperature constrained the size and br…

Molecular Structure of the Arthropod Hemocyanins

1992

Hemocyanin is an extracellular, blue protein that occurs in high concentrations in the blood of many arthropods, including spiders, scorpions, horseshoe crabs, crustaceans, and at least two centipedes. Serving as an ### oxygen carrier, it is functionally equivalent to hemoglobin, but performs reversible oxygen binding between two copper ions. Hemocyanin is composed of a number of subunits that assemble in an extremely large macro-molecular entity. These particles, which are similar in size to viruses or ribosomes, exhibit a complex allosteric behavior during oxygen binding. There is growing evidence that this functional plasticity has evolved upon, and answers to, ecophysiological constrain…
