Development and Validation of the Brief Music in Mood Regulation Scale (B-MMR)
2012
mood regulation has been shown to be among of the most important reasons for musical engagement, but there has been a lack of a concise measurement instrument for this behavior. The current study focused on developing and testing the Brief Music in Mood Regulation scale (B-MMR), a 21-item self-report instrument for assessing the use of seven different music-related mood-regulation strategies. Two survey studies (N = 1515 and N = 526) were conducted to first develop and then test and validate the instrument. The newly constructed scale showed adequate internal consistency reliabilities and correlated expectedly with measures of general emotion regulation and musical engagement. As a concise …
Nesuicidāls paškaitējums, emociju regulācija un vardarbības pieredze pusaudžiem
2020
2021
Pētījuma mērķis bija noskaidrot nesuicidāla paškaitējuma (NP) saistības ar NP iznākuma ekspektācijām un emociju regulāciju Latvijas pusaudžu un jaunu pieaugušo izlasē. Izlasi veidoja 92 abu dzimumu pusaudži un jauni pieaugušie vecumā no 14-30 gadiem, vidējais vecums – 20,08 gadi, 57 sievietes (62%) un 35 vīrieši (38%). NP ekspektācijas tika noteiktas ar Nesuicidālā Paškaitējuma iznākuma ekspektāciju aptauju (The Nonsuicidal Self-Injury Expectancies Questionnaire, Hasking & Boyes, 2017). NP uzvedība tika noteikta ar Paškaitējuma apgalvojumu aptauju (Inventory of statements about self-injury, Klonsky, 2008), un emociju regulācijas stratēģijas - ar Emociju regulācijas aptauju (Emotion Regulati…
Resveratrol post-transcriptionally regulates pro-inflammatory gene expression via regulation of KSRP RNA binding activity
2014
Resveratrol shows beneficial effects in inflammation-based diseases like cancer, cardiovascular and chronic inflammatory diseases. Therefore, the molecular mechanisms of the anti-inflammatory resveratrol effects deserve more attention. In human epithelial DLD-1 and monocytic Mono Mac 6 cells resveratrol decreased the expression of iNOS, IL-8 and TNF-α by reducing mRNA stability without inhibition of the promoter activity. Shown by pharmacological and siRNA-mediated inhibition, the observed effects are SIRT1-independent. Target-fishing and drug responsive target stability experiments showed selective binding of resveratrol to the RNA-binding protein KSRP, a central post-transcriptional regul…
Cancer Signaling Transcriptome Is Upregulated in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
2020
We aimed to explore the differences in the whole transcriptome of peripheral blood mononuclear cells between elderly individuals with and without type 2 diabetes (T2D). We conducted a microarray-based transcriptome analysis of 19 individuals with T2D and 15 without. Differentially expressed genes according to linear models were submitted to the Ingenuity Pathway Analysis system to conduct a functional enrichment analysis. We established that diseases, biological functions, and canonical signaling pathways were significantly associated with T2D patients when their logarithms of Benjamini&ndash
L‐Aspartate as a high‐quality nitrogen source in Escherichia coli : Regulation of L‐aspartase by the nitrogen regulatory system and interaction of L‐…
2020
Escherichia coli uses the C4-dicarboxylate transporter DcuA for L-aspartate/fumarate antiport, which results in the exploitation of L-aspartate for fumarate respiration under anaerobic conditions and for nitrogen assimilation under aerobic and anaerobic conditions. L-Aspartate represents a high-quality nitrogen source for assimilation. Nitrogen assimilation from L-aspartate required DcuA, and aspartase AspA to release ammonia. Ammonia is able to provide by established pathways the complete set of intracellular precursors (ammonia, L-aspartate, L-glutamate, and L-glutamine) for synthesizing amino acids, nucleotides, and amino sugars. AspA was regulated by a central regulator of nitrogen meta…
miR-31-5p Is a LIPUS-Mechanosensitive MicroRNA that Targets HIF-1α Signaling and Cytoskeletal Proteins
2019
The roles of low-intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) and microRNAs (miRNAs) on hMSCs commitments have already been investigated
Annexin-1 downregulation in thyroid cancer correlates to the degree of tumour differentiation
2006
We investigated the expression of annexin-1 (ANXA1) in thyroid carcinoma cell lines and in thyroid cancers with a different degree of differentiation. The highest level of ANXA1 expression examined by Western blotting was detected in the papillary carcinoma cells (NPA) and in the follicular cells (WRO). On the other hand, the most undifferentiated thyroid carcinoma cells (ARO and FRO) presented the lowest level of ANXA1 expression. In surgical tissue specimens from 32 patients with thyroid cancers, we found high immunoreactivity for ANXA1 in papillary (PTC) and follicular (FTC) thyroid cancers while in undifferentiated thyroid cancers (UTC) the expression of the protein was barely detectabl…
RASSF1A inhibits estrogen receptor alpha expression and estrogen-independent signalling: implications for breast cancer development
2012
The Ras association domain family 1 isoform A (RASSF1A) is a tumor suppressor whose inactivation is implicated in the development of many human cancers, including breast carcinomas. Little is known about the tumor-suppressive function of RASSF1A in breast tissue and whether its inactivation is mechanistically involved in the initiation and progression of breast tumors. Here, we show that RASSF1A inhibits breast cancer growth in vivo, and suppresses estrogen receptor (ERα) expression and function. Reconstitution of RASSF1A in MCF7 cells led to decreased ERα levels and reduced sensitivity to estrogen (E2). Concomitantly, we observed decreased expression of Id1 as well as the E2-responsive gen…
Role of quercetin on sterigmatocystin-induced oxidative stress-mediated toxicity.
2021
Oxidative stress appears to be a common trigger for many of the effects associated with the exposure to various mycotoxins, including sterigmatocystin (STE). However, studies to alleviate STE toxicity through the use of natural antioxidants are sparsely reported in literature. In the present study, the cytoprotective effect of quercetin (QUE) was tested in SH-SY5Y cells against STE-induced oxidative stress and cytotoxicity. The MTT assay revealed that STE decreased cell viability, whereas pre-treatment of cells with QUE restored it. The QUE was also found to counteract STE-induced ROS generation and decrease STE-induced up-regulation of the expression of the stress-inducible enzymes HO-1 an…
