W artykule przedstawiony został casus jednego z zakonników Kościoła Katolickiego. Zdaniem autora przypadek ten dobrze ilustruje realia, w jakich przyszło żyć duchowieństwu w Polskiej Rzeczypospolitej Ludowej. Nonlinear rotation-invariant pattern recognition by use of the optical morphological correlation.

We introduce a modification of the nonlinear morphological correlation for optical rotation-invariant pattern recognition. The high selectivity of the morphological correlation is conserved compared with standard linear correlation. The operation performs the common morphological correlation by extraction of the information by means of a circular-harmonic component of a reference. In spite of some loss of information good discrimination is obtained, especially for detecting images with a high degree of resemblance. Computer simulations are presented, as well as optical experiments implemented with a joint transform correlator.

The peroxisomal beta-oxidation system consists of four steps catalysed by three enzymes: acyl-CoA oxidase, 3-hydroxyacyl-CoA hydratase/3-hydroxyacyl-CoA dehydrogenase (multifunctional enzyme) and thiolase. In humans, thiolase activity is encoded by one gene, whereas in rodents, three enzymes encoded by three distinct genes (i.e. thiolase A, thiolase B and SCP2/thiolase) catalyse the thiolase activity. So far, acyl-CoA oxidase- and multifunctional enzyme-deficient patients have been identified and knock-out mice for these genes have been produced. The pituitary-gonadal function was studied in 18 beta-thalassemic female adolescents, 8 with delayed puberty and 10 with primary amenorrhea,treated with repeated transfusions and long-term iron chelation therapy by subcutaneous infusion. A 100 micrograms gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) test, a double-bolus GnRH test after estradiol administration in non-responders, a 400 micrograms thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH) test and a 'high dose' human menopausal gonadotropin (hMG) test were performed. — A maximum-likelihood (ML) estimator of the correlation dimension d 2 of fractal sets of points not affected by the left-hand truncation of their inter-distances is defined. Such truncation might produce significant biases of the ML estimates of d 2 when the observed scale range of the phenomenon is very narrow, as often occurs in seismological studies. This work evaluates N2O emission from maize-crop (Zea mays) fields submitted to different organic or mineral fertilizers (pig slurry, matured pig manure or ammonium nitrate) in Brittany (France).
