A new species of the genus Amnestus Dallas, 1851, Amnestus mendeli, is described from the cloud zone of Green Mountain, Ascension Island, and compared with its closest relatives, the Brazilian Amnestus lenkoi Froeschner, 1975 and Amnestus pequinus Froeschner, 1975. It is the first representative of the family Cydnidae recorded on the island thus far. The species is presumed to be an introduction from the Americas, but the hypothesis that it might be endemic to Ascension Island is also not excluded.

A prioritised inventory of crop wild relatives and wild harvested plants of Tunisia

AbstractAn inventory of crop wild relatives (CWR) and wild harvested plants (WHP) occurring in Tunisia, based on the integration of the last available floristic checklists, is presented. The taxa were prioritised according to economic value of the related crop, potential for crop improvement, threat status, endemism, inclusion in the ITPGRFA (Annex I) and average annual contributions to dietary energy (kilocalories) per capita per day by applying a scoring system based on 4 priority levels. Air conditioning and heat-related mortality: a multi-country longitudinal study

Little is known about abundances of the major bacterial taxa in agricultural soils and how they are affected by fertilization or other agricultural practices. Electrical and optical low frequency noises in multimodal vertical cavity surface emitting lasers

Experimental investigations of the low frequency noise of multimode 780 nm vertical cavity surface emitting lasers are reported. Electrical noise, optical noise and their correlation have been measured in the frequency range 1 Hz–95 kHz. The results show that the main contribution to the electrical noise is located in the distributed Bragg reflector layers of the laser. The optical power and pump current noise sources are strongly correlated below and around the threshold, while are weakly correlated above threshold. It is argued that the noise in the optical power is due to both free injection carrier noise and optical gain fluctuations.

Predictive Value of Pro-BNP for Heart Failure Readmission after an Acute Coronary Syndrome

Background: N-terminal pro-brain natural peptide (NT-pro-BNP) is a well-established biomarker of tissue congestion and has prognostic value in patients with heart failure (HF). Nonetheless, there is scarce evidence on its predictive capacity for HF re-admission after an acute coronary syndrome (ACS). We performed a prospective, single-center study in all patients discharged after an ACS. HF re-admission was analyzed by competing risk regression, taking all-cause mortality as a competing event. Kinematic relative velocity with respect to stationary observers in Schwarzschild spacetime

We study the kinematic relative velocity of general test particles with respect to stationary observers (using spherical coordinates) in Schwarzschild spacetime, obtaining that its modulus does not depend on the observer, unlike Fermi, spectroscopic and astrometric relative velocities. We study some fundamental particular cases, generalizing some results given in other work about stationary and radial free-falling test particles. Moreover, we give a new result about test particles with circular geodesic orbits: the modulus of their kinematic relative velocity with respect to any stationary observer depends only on the radius of the circular orbit, and so, it remains constant.
