Hybrid Inorganic‐Organic White Light Emitting Diodes

This chapter reviews the state of the art of materials, technologies, characterizations, process and challenges concerning hybrid white light‐emitting diodes (LEDs). Here, for a “hybrid LED” we mean a device based on a layer of organic phosphors (or a mix of inorganic and organic ones) pumped by a high‐energy inorganic LED. Light is emitted by a frequency down‐conversion (sometimes simply named color‐conversion) process. Benefits and weak spots of this technology are investigated with a special attention for the materials involved into the process of frequency down‐conversion, in order to envisage the future impact of the hybrid lighting technology among the well‐established inorganic ones.

Interpolation of triangular meshes is a subject of great interest in many computer graphics related applications, as, for example, gaming and realtime rendering. One of the main approaches to interpolate the positions and normals of the mesh vertices is the use of parametric triangular Bezier patches. We report on a detailed analysis of hyperspectral and multidirectional remote sensing data acquired using the Compact High Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (CHRIS) mounted onboard the Project for On-Board Autonomy (PROBA) spacecraft. This instrument is capable of sampling reflected radiation over the visible and near-infrared (NIR) region of the solar spectrum at a spatial resolution (approx. 17 m) intermediary between sensors traditionally used in land applications (such as Landsat and Satellite Pour l’Observation de la Terre (SPOT), 30 m–50 m) and the latest instruments delivering a nominal resolution of 1 m or less. Accelerating collision detection for large-scale crowd simulation on multi-core and many-core architectures

The computing capabilities of current multi-core and many-core architectures have been used in crowd simulations for both enhancing crowd rendering and simulating continuum crowds. However, improving the scalability of crowd simulation systems by exploiting the inherent parallelism of these architectures is still an open issue. Women remained invisible in health sciences until the late twentieth century because they were not included in the cohorts used in researched studies. Thanks to the work done by different groups of feminist researchers, we were able to visualise the need to change those paradigms.
