Enhancing Creativity: Using Visual Mnemonic Devices in the Teaching Process in Order to Develop Creativity in Students
2020
(1) Background: In the field of creativity studies there is always space for expansion and new conceptualizations of the methods involved. Therefore, we will present in this paper a brief arrangement of the methods used to enhance creativity and consider whether visual mnemonic devices can increase creativity. The devices are used in the teaching process in order to ease the remembering process by creating a visual representation. Visual mnemonic devices are techniques that increase creativity as part of their own performance. (2) Methods: We will use a quasi-experimental, nonequivalent group design, the procedure involving the use of visual mnemonic devices. (3) Results: The results show t…
An innovative mechanical motion converter for sea wave applications
2018
The paper shows an innovative system designed and developed by University of Palermo. The device is based on a simple mechanical converter able to transform a variable bidirectional linear motion into a unidirectional rotary motion. This technology can be successful used in sea wave applications, producing a mechanical output usable for the electrical energy production.
A stacked interleaved DC-DC buck converter for proton exchange membrane electrolyzer applications: Design and experimental validation
2019
Abstract Since the two last decades, hydrogen production has been attracting the attention of the scientific community thanks to its inherent very low pollution when energy coming from renewable energy sources (RESs) are used. However, it implies the use of DC/DC converters to interface source and load. These conversion systems must meet several requirements from current ripple point of view, energy efficiency, and performance to preserve the sustainability of hydrogen production. This article proposes the design and realization of a stacked interleaved buck converter to supply a proton exchange membrane electrolyzer. The converter is designed to ensure a low output current ripple and a sui…
A stepwise power tariff model with game theory based on Monte-Carlo simulation and its applications for household, agricultural, commercial and indus…
2019
Abstract The concept of game theory has been adapted in the regulation of retail electricity market within the constraints of stepwise power tariff (SPT) for economic energy consumption. The objective is to increase the penetration level of renewable energy sources (RES) and electric vehicles with implementation of Bayesian game model for categorized (i.e. household, agricultural, commercial & industrial) consumers. Bayesian game model is based on degree of information shared by consumers due to their selfish nature. The main goal is to create an algorithm using constraints RES, storage through electric vehicles, electric wiring, number of consumer, efficient equipment, social status of fam…
Optimizing Renewable Power Management in Transmission Congestion. An Energy Hub Model Using Hydrogen Storage
2021
Energy production from distributed renewable power plants underwent a takeoff in last years as never before. Nevertheless, the installation of technologies based on variable energy resources and their connection on transmission power lines might cause congestions due to the transmission capacity limits. This paper describes the modelization of a HV transmission line with local renewable production and its optimal management through an Energy Hub model. Aim of the study is to identify the optimal size of the power storage, based on an electoryzer, a hydrogen storage and a fuel cell, in order to minimize the congestion risks and to maximize the exploitation of renewable energy production.
An Investigation of the Energy Consumption by Information Technology Equipments
2013
The World Wide Web and the rise of servers and PC's data centers have become a major position in the overall power consumption of the world. In order to prevent global warming and ensuing disasters, already Internet-service providers, hosting providers on green power have changed. Even household energy suppliers offer green electricity from renewable energy such as wind , solar, biomass and hydro, which emits no carbon dioxide, to stand against global warming. Only a global change for the information technology can prevent the global -warming. The switch to renewable energy is the beginning of our future and must be pursued as well as the research and development in information and communic…
How Decarbonization, Digitalization and Decentralization are changing key power infrastructures
2018
Abstract This paper addresses the impact over key power infrastructures of the three main drivers for change of these times: Decarbonization, Digitalization and Decentralization. The three phenomena, according to prominent observers, are affecting all fields of our lives but, in the literature, it is difficult to find an analysis of their impact on electrical power systems. The framework proposed in this paper, based on the main power systems evolution models proposed by CIGRE, uses data from open databases and tries to find out general guidelines for power systems development at a worldwide level. Taking as reference the European and COP21 environmental objectives and beyond, the technolog…
Strategies for waste recycling : the mechanical performance of concrete based on limestone and plastic waste
2022
Recycling is among the best management strategies to avoid dispersion of several types of wastes in the environment. Research in recycling strategies is gaining increased importance in view of Circular Economy principles. The exploitation of waste, or byproducts, as alternative aggregate in concrete, results in a reduction in the exploitation of scarce natural resources. On the other hand, a productive use of waste leads to a reduction in the landfilling of waste material through the transformation of waste into a resource. In this frame of reference, the paper discusses how to use concrete as a container of waste focusing on the waste produced in limestone quarries and taking the challenge…
Composite Polymer Electrolytes with Improved Lithium Metal Electrode Interfacial Properties: I. Elechtrochemical Properties of Dry PEO‐LiX Systems
1998
Several types of lithium ion conducting polymer electrolytes have been synthesized by hot-pressing homogeneous mixtures of the components, namely, poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) as the polymer matrix, lithium trifluoromethane sulfonate (LiCF{sub 3}SO{sub 3}), and lithium tetrafluoroborate (LiBF{sub 4}), respectively, as the lithium salt, and lithium gamma-aluminate {gamma}-LiAlO{sub 2}, as a ceramic filler. This preparation procedure avoids any step including liquids so that plasticizer-free, composite polymer electrolytes can be obtained. These electrolyte have enhanced electrochemical properties, such as an ionic conductivity of the order of 10{sup {minus}4} S/cm at 80--90 C and an anodic bre…
Efficient, Cyanine Dye Based Bilayer Solar Cells
2012
Simple bilayer solar cells, using commercially available cationic cyanine dyes as donors and evaporated C60 layer as an acceptor are prepared. Cyanine dyes with absorption maxima of 578, 615 and 697 nm having either perchlorate or hexafluorophosphate counter-ions are evaluated. The perchlorate dye leads to cells with S-shape current-voltage curves; only the dyes with the hexafluorophosphate counter-ions lead to efficient solar cells. When the wide bandgap dyes are employed, S-shape current-voltage curves are obtained when the conductive polymer PEDOT:PSS is used as hole transport layer. Substitution of PEDOT:PSS with MoO3 leads to cells with more rectangular current–voltage curves and high …
