Repeatability of in vitro power profile measurements for multifocal contact lenses

2015

Abstract Purpose To evaluate the repeatability of an optical device (NIMO TR1504, Lambda-X, Belgium) for measuring multifocal contact lens power profiles. Methods The NIMO TR1504 was used to measure power profiles 30 times for each of 10 different contact lenses from 4 major companies. All contact lenses were labelled as −3 D for distance vision; half were for high addition and half for low addition. The optical zone in all measurements was set to 3-mm radius. For each lens, the median power profile and the residuals of the 30 measurements were calculated. The 95% confidence bands and two indices that summarize measurement errors were calculated: the repeatability limit and an index of repe…

Repeatability and reliability of the diabetic foot self-care questionnaire in Arabic patients: A transcultural adaptation.

2022

Abstract Purpose The diabetic foot self-care questionnaire is considered a self-care evaluation tool with 16 questions for assessing diabetic foot health disorders. To date, the DFSQ has been validated in different languages, but an Arabic version was lacking. Consequently, the purpose of this study was to translate and validate the Arabic version of the DFSQ (DFSQ-AR). Method A suitable method was developed for the translation protocol and cross-cultural validation from Spanish to Arabic. Regarding the total marks from each sub-scale, agreement degrees and confidence were analyzed using Cronbach's α and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), respectively. In addition, the mean ± standar…

Computer-aided system for morphometric mandibular index computation (Using dental panoramic radiographs)

2012

Objective: We propose and validate a computer—aided system to measure three different mandibular indexes: cortical width, panoramic mandibular index and, mandibular alveolar bone resorption index. Study Design: Repeatability and reproducibility of the measurements are analyzed and compared to the manual estimation of the same indexes. Results: The proposed computerized system exhibits superior repeatability and reproducibility rates compared to standard manual methods. Moreover, the time required to perform the measurements using the proposed method is negligible compared to perform the measurements manually. Conclusions: We have proposed a very user friendly computerized method to measure …

Ionic liquid-based single-drop microextraction followed by liquid chromatography-ultraviolet spectrophotometry detection to determine typical UV filt…

2009

Abstract A user-friendly and inexpensive ionic liquid-based single-drop microextraction (IL-SDME) procedure has been developed to preconcentrate trace amounts of six typical UV filters extensively used in cosmetic products (i.e., 2-hydroxy-4-methoxybenzophenone, isoamyl 4-methoxycinnamate, 3-(4′-methylbenzylidene)camphor, 2-ethylhexyl 2-cyano-3,3-diphenylacrylate, 2-ethylhexyl 4-dimethylaminobenzoate and 2-ethylhexyl 4-methoxycinnamate) from surface water samples prior to analysis by liquid chromatography-ultraviolet spectrophotometry detection (LC-UV). A two-stage multivariate optimization approach was developed by means of a Plackett–Burman design for screening and selecting the significa…

Green determination of eight water-soluble B vitamins in cosmetic products by liquid chromatography with ultraviolet detection.

2021

Abstract B vitamins are a group of compounds with beneficious properties for dermatologic care, and therefore they are included in the cosmetic formulations as high added-value ingredients. In this paper, an analytical method for the simultaneous determination of eight water-soluble B vitamins in cosmetic products is reported for the first time. This method is based on liquid chromatography with ultraviolet detection (LC-UV) analysis after simple water leaching of the analytes from the cosmetic matrix. No organic solvents are required, beyond the ethanol used in the chromatographic mobile phase. The proposed method has been successfully validated showing good linearity, limits of detection …

Protein mapping by two-dimensional high performance liquid chromatography.

2000

Current developments in drug discovery in the pharmaceutical industry require highly efficient analytical systems for protein mapping providing high resolution, robustness, sensitivity, reproducibility and a high throughput of samples. The potential of two-dimensional (2D) HPLC as a complementary method to 2D-gel electrophoresis is investigated, especially in view of speed and repeatability. The method will be applied for proteins of a molecular mass <20 000 which are not well resolved in 2D-gel electrophoresis. The 2D-HPLC system described in this work consisted of anion- or cation-exchange chromatography in the first dimension and reversed-phase chromatography in the second dimension. We …

Determination of hydroxytyrosol and tyrosol by liquid chromatography for the quality control of cosmetic products based on olive extracts

2014

An analytical method for the simultaneous determination of hydroxytyrosol and tyrosol in different types of olive extract raw materials and cosmetic cream samples has been developed. The determination was performed by liquid chromatography with UV spectrophotometric detection. Different chromatographic parameters, such as mobile phase pH and composition, oven temperature and different sample preparation variables were studied. The best chromatographic separation was obtained under the following conditions: C18 column set at 35°C and isocratic elution of a mixture ethanol: 1% acetic acid solution at pH 5 (5:95, v/v) as mobile phase pumped at 1 mL min(-1). The detection wavelength was set at …

Determination of UV filters in both soluble and particulate fractions of seawaters by dispersive liquid–liquid microextraction followed by gas chroma…

2014

An analytical method to determine the total content (i.e., not only in the soluble fraction but also in the particulate one) of eight commonly used UV filters in seawater samples is presented for the first time. Dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction (DLLME) is used as microextraction technique to pre-concentrate the target analytes before their determination by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). In order to release the UV filters from the suspended particles an ultrasound treatment is performed before DLLME. The ultrasound treatment time was studied in order to achieve a quantitative lixiviation of the target analytes. The type and volume of both disperser and extraction solve…

Flow-injection determination of water in organic solvents by near-infrared spectrometry

1993

Abstract A flow-injection (FI) procedure was developed for the direct determination of water in organic solvents by using the O-H stretch absorbance band of water in the near-infrared (NIR) region. Dichloromethane was employed as a test solvent to study the influence of the flow parameters (carrier flow and sample injection volume) and time interval on the sensitivity and repeatability of the FI-NIR measurements. The developed procedure permits the determination of water in dichloromethane and isobutyl methyl ketone samples with limits of detection of 0.01 and 0.005% (v/v), respectively. Real and spiked samples of solvents were analysed by FI-NIR and accurate results were found. The method …

Development of a gas chromatography-mass spectrometry method for the determination of ultraviolet filters in beach sand samples

2014

An analytical method for the determination of eight fat-soluble ultraviolet (UV) filters in beach sand samples is presented for the first time. The method is based on a leaching process of the target compounds from sand samples using vortex mixer agitation and further centrifugation, followed by dispersive liquid–liquid microextraction (DLLME) of the supernatant and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis of the DLLME extract. The variables involved in the leaching and in the DLLME processes were studied to provide the best enrichment factors. In the first case, the leaching solvent type and volume, and the vortex mixer agitation time were studied. In the case of the DLLME, th…
