It has been hypothesized that risk factors of childhood cancers may already operate during the prenatal and neonatal period. Results of previous epidemiological studies have been inconsistent.During 1992-1997 a large case-control study on childhood cancers and a variety of potential risk factors was conducted in Germany. Cases were ascertained by the German Childhood Cancer Registry. Each case was matched to a population-based control of the same age and gender, sampled from the district where the case lived at the date of diagnosis. Pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and safety of moss-aGalactosidase A in patients with Fabry disease.

Moss-aGalactosidase A (moss-aGal) is a moss-derived version of human α-galactosidase developed for enzyme replacement therapy in patients with Fabry disease. It exhibits a homogenous N-glycosylation profile with >90% mannose-terminated glycans. In contrast to mammalian cell produced α-galactosidase, moss-aGal does not rely on mannose-6-phosphate receptor mediated endocytosis but targets the mannose receptor for tissue uptake. Abstract Background Fabry disease is an X-linked inherited metabolic condition where the deficit of the α-galactosidase A enzyme, encoded by the GLA gene, leads to glycosphingolipid storage, mainly globotriaosylceramide. A phase II/III clinical study of enzyme replacement therapy with idursulfase in mucopolysaccharidosis II (Hunter syndrome)

Purpose: To evaluate the safety and efficacy of recombinant human iduronate-2-sulfatase (idursulfase) in the treatment of mucopolysaccharidosis II. Methods: Ninety-six mucopolysaccharidosis II patients between 5 and 31 years of age were enrolled in a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial. Patients were randomized to placebo infusions, weekly idursulfase (0.5 mg/kg) infusions or every-other-week infusions of idursulfase (0.5 mg/kg). Outcome of type III Gaucher disease on enzyme replacement therapy: review of 55 cases.

The European Task Force for Neuronopathic Gaucher Disease (NGD) met in 2006 to review its 2001 guidelines. Fifty-five patients from five European countries were reviewed; 29 were male and 26 female. The majority of the patients were homozygous for the L444P mutation. All had been on enzyme replacement therapy (ERT). However, there was considerable variation in the dose of ERT, as well as an uneven distribution of risk factors. This study reports the first evaluation of therapeutic response in Romanian patients with Gaucher disease type I, after therapy with Cerezyme recently became available in our country.24 patients (11-50 years) received Cerezyme 20-60 U/kg every two weeks for at least 18 months. The aim of this study was to provide a detailed epidemiological description of hearing impairment in patients in the Fabry Outcome Survey (FOS), which is the largest available database of Fabry patients.
