Implementation of IFRS in Japan: An Analysis of Voluntary Adoption by Listed Firms

2019

Since 2010 Japanese listed firms can voluntarily use international financial reporting standards for their consolidated financial statements. Using financial and non-financial data, we carry out a comprehensive research into the adopters’ determinants. We employ a multi-period logit model that considers every annual decision made along the period 2010-2019. We find that the having outside networks through subsidiaries and a strong internal corporate governance system are key factors. We also confirm a contagion effect. Finally, our results suggest that goodwill is also relevant, since only Japanese accounting standards require annual amortization.

Preparing for CRIS: Challenges and Opportunities for Systems Integration at Finnish Universities

2014

Poster at Open Repositories 2014, Helsinki, Finland, June 9-13, 2014 This paper raises issues presented by integrating administrative research information to institutional repository (IR) and other systems, especially in the context of Finnish universities. The observations are based on preparing for procurement of a Current Research Information System (CRIS) at the University of Jyväskylä. The CRIS will be used by various stakeholders in different organizational units, having conflicting requirements and different notions on system usage. For example, national reporting affects considerably the publication cataloging conventions. Determining the optimal data flow for handling publications,…

Perceived neighborhood social disorder and residents' attitudes toward reporting child physical abuse.

2004

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to explore the relationship between perceived neighborhood social disorder and attitudes toward reporting child physical abuse. METHOD: Data from a national probabilistic sample (N=9,759) were used. Responses about the perception of neighborhood social disorder, perceived frequency of child physical abuse in Spanish families, and willingness to report a case of child physical abuse to the police were collected through face-to-face interviews in respondents' homes. Walking Children Through a Minefield: How Professionals Experience Exploring Adverse Childhood Experiences

2017

Understanding the challenges of professionals in addressing child adversity is key to improving the detection, protection, and care of exposed children. We aimed to synthesize findings from qualitative studies of professionals’ lived experience of addressing child adversity. Through a systematic search, we identified eight qualitative studies and synthesized them using metaethnography. We generated three themes, “feeling inadequate,” “fear of making it worse,” and “facing evil,” and one overarching metaphor, “walking children through a minefield.” The professionals felt that they lacked the means necessary to explore child adversity, that they were apprehensive of worsening the child’s situ…
