Mechanisms of the Embedding of Extortion Racket Systems: The case of Cosa Nostra

The chapter summarises some of the research undertaken in the EU project GLODERS which is directed towards investigating the dynamics of extortion racket systems (ERS) of which the Sicilian Mafia is but one example (http://www.gloders.eu/). Before describing in more detail the principal formal characteristics of the Mafia-type organizations and the ways in which the extortion racket system works in a certain territory it is necessary to briefly outline what is a mafia-type organization and what we mean when we talk about the extortion racket system. The chapter propose an analysis of the mechanisms of the process of extortion in Sicily.

The proposal aims to highlight the semiotic elements of the discourse that refer to the symbolic ones of representations, and that transform the therapy in an exercise of professional dominion aimed to modify the perception of the self of the female patient through the subversion of specific emotional script. AbstractThis paper presents the results of a research on the representations of femicide in the judicial field, in Italy. The use of the term femicide is analysed through the lens of the normative process, examining its social meanings and questioning its political and economic anchoring using the “juridical field” model (Bourdieu 1986). The essay is based on a wide theoretical framework. Le passage des sociétés modernes aux sociétés postmodernes impose la réévaluation de la notion de sujet et des modalités de construction de la règle scolaire. Si, à l’école, le contrôle devient régulation, la question de la nécessaire intériorisation de la loi scolaire gomme celle de l’arbitraire et de la plurivocité des règles. La spécificité du système éducatif français tient à la construction historique républicaine de la laïcité, abusivement saisie comme neutralité politique ou religieuse. Le déni du caractère négociable et interprétatif des normes scolaires scelle le caractère politique de l’institution scolaire et les difficultés à penser collectivement le lien/lieu scolaire.
