The aim of this study was to determine whether a cold ischemia time (CIT) of12 hours influences the activation of complement as well as the plasma concentrations of neopterin, interleukin (IL)-6, or IL-8 in orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT).Eighteen consecutive patients undergoing OLT using a veno-venous bypass technique were divided into 2 groups: duration of CIT12 hours (group 1; n = 11), and CIT12 hours (group 2; n = 7). Introduction: A modified cryopreservation technique for human parathyroid tissue was compared with the standard method using a programmed freezer. Methods: Total parathyroidectomy was performed in three groups of 6-week-old Rowett nude rats. Group I (control) underwent no transplantation of parathyroid tissue (n=9). After 10 days, the rats of groups II (n=15) and III (n=15) underwent xenotransplantation of 20 mg cryopreserved human parathyroid tissue, which had been stored in liquid nitrogen at –196°C for 1–22 months prior to xenotransplantation. Graft rinse prior reperfusion in liver transplantation (LT) is believed to reduce the incidence of postreperfusion syndrome and improve clinical outcome. A MEDLINE search was performed to obtain a comprehensive review of the published literature dealing with graft rinse in LT. Moreover, all thirty-four LT centers in the Eurotransplant (ET) region were invited to participate in an online survey to whether or not graft rinse is performed and whether further research in the field is needed.
