FEV1 Predicts Cardiac Status and Outcome in Chronic Heart Failure

2022

Background COPD is an established predictor of clinical outcome in patients with chronic heart failure (HF). However, little evidence is available about the predictive value of FEV1 in chronic HF. Research Question Is pulmonary function related to the progression of chronic HF? Study Design and Methods The MyoVasc study ( ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT04064450) is a prospective cohort study of HF. Information on pulmonary and cardiac functional and structural status was obtained by body plethysmography and echocardiography. The primary study end point was worsening of HF. Results Overall 2,998 participants (age range, 35-84 years) with available FEV1 data were eligible for analysis. Lin…

Treatment of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction.

2018

Heart failure, in its diverse forms based on the value of the ejection fraction, is associated to high mortality and the frequent need for hospitalization, with a consequent heavy burden on healthcare resources. For an appropriate treatment of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF), there are no specific drugs effective for this condition. Those indicated in HF with reduced EF (HFrEF) are of more benefit in that form of HF, according to the guidelines of the European Society of Cardiology of 2016: ACE-inhibitors, beta-blockers, anti-aldosterones are all indicated with a class of recommendation/level of evidence IA; therapy with loop diuretics is indicated in the case of clin…

Assessment of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in soil of a Natural Reserve (Isola delle Femmine) (Italy) located in front of a plant for the …

2009

Isola delle Femmine Natural Reserve is a very little isle about 15 km from the centre of Palermo, in front of a plant for the production of cement and about 600 m from coast. In the present research, profiles soil PAHs were obtained for 16 sites within the reserve and for 8 stations on the rural soil taken as reference. summation Sigma PAHs, in the soil of investigated area, ranged from 35 to 545 microg/kg. With the aim to find the origin of PAHs in the soil of Isola delle Femmine, we compare the distribution of single analytes in the investigated area with those of the reference rural area (Monte Raffo Rosso), with those of atmospheric urban particulate collected at Palermo along with repo…

Effect of Coronary Disease Characteristics on Prognostic Relevance of Residual Ischemia After Stent Implantation

2021

Objectives: We investigated the influence of coronary disease characteristics on prognostic implications of residual ischemia after coronary stent implantation. Methods: This study included 1,476 patients with drug-eluting stent implantation and available pre- and post-percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) fractional flow reserve (FFR) measurements. Residual ischemia was defined as post-PCI FFR ≤ 0.80. Coronary disease characteristics with significant interaction hazard ratios (HRs) for clinical outcomes with residual ischemia were defined as interaction characteristics with residual ischemia (ICwRI). The primary outcome was target vessel failure (TVF)—a composite of cardiac death, target…

Compensation strategies in older adults: sociodemographic and cognitive reserve differences

2015

Migration patterns and fat reserves of Curlew Sandpipers Calidris ferruginea at a stopover site in southern Italy

2006

The Volturno Plain, southern Italian coast, is a regular stopover site for Curlew Sandpipers during northward migration. During 1992–1998, 2,177 Curlew Sandpipers were ringed and measured on northward migration; numbers trapped each year fluctuated. Peak passage was during the period 6–10 May, with 94% of birds trapped in the period 1–20 May. Median date of passage of males preceded females by about five days. Using a new visual method to evaluate fat deposition in waders, there was a strong correlation between body weight and visually estimated fat deposits. Birds showed a mass increase of 2.8 g/day. The mean stopover duration was 2.2 days. Only 0.9% of the total catch of Curlew Sandpipers…
