Control flow strategy in a receiver coil for nuclear magnetic resonance for imaging

2020

A mathematical discussion is introduced to describe the receiver coil characterizing a nuclear magnetic resonance for imaging, starting from a general shape of the conductor. A set of different inductance calculations have been introduced, varying the shape of the conductor. The inductance calculation led to a general expression of the magnetic field of a single coil characterized by a rectangular shape. A dynamic model of the receiver coil has been developed to represent the natural frequencies that characterize the operational bandwidth. A nonstationary control strategy is implemented to make a real time changing of the operational bandwidth. The frequency response of the coil generates …

Cyclotron instability in the afterglow mode of minimum-B ECRIS.

2016

It was shown recently that cyclotron instability in non-equilibrium plasma of a minimum-B electron cyclotron resonance ion source (ECRIS) causes perturbation of the extracted ion current and generation of strong bursts of bremsstrahlung emission, which limit the performance of the ion source. The present work is devoted to the dynamic regimes of plasma instability in ECRIS operated in pulsed mode. Instability develops in decaying plasma shortly after heating microwaves are switched off and manifests itself in the form of powerful pulses of electromagnetic emission associated with precipitation of high energy electrons. Time-resolved measurements of microwave emission bursts are presented. I…

Spectroscopic study of the electric field induced valence change of Fe-defect centers in SrTiO(3)

2011

The electrochemical changes induced by an electric field in Fe-doped SrTiO(3) have been investigated by X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XANES and EXAFS), electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and Raman spectroscopy. A detailed study of the Fe dopant in the regions around the anode and cathode reveals new insights into the local structure and valence state of Fe in SrTiO(3) single crystals. The ab initio full multiple-scattering XANES calculations give an evidence of the oxygen vacancy presence in the first coordination shell of iron. Differences in the length and disorder of the Fe-O bonds as extracted from EXAFS are correlated to the unequivocal identification of the defect type by compleme…

Normal and relaxor ferroelectric behavior in the Ba1−xPbx(Ti1−yZry)O3 solid solutions

2017

Abstract Polycrystalline samples of Ba 1−x Pb x (Ti 1−y Zr y )O 3 (BPTZ) with x = 0.025 & 0.1 and 0.10 ≤ y ≤ 0.50 have been synthesized by high-temperature solid-state reaction technique. X-ray diffraction reveals the formation of single phase with tetragonal or cubic structure. Dielectric investigations were carried out in the temperature range from 80 to 445 K with frequencies range from 10 2 to 10 6  Hz. A broad dielectric anomaly coupled with the shift of dielectric maxima toward a higher temperature with increasing frequency indicates either a diffuse phase transition or relaxor behavior in some of these ceramics. Whatever lead content, when zirconium is substituted by titanium, T C an…

The biased disc of an electron cyclotron resonance ion source as a probe of instability-induced electron and ion losses

2019

International audience; Electron Cyclotron Resonance Ion Source (ECRIS) plasmas are prone to kinetic instabilities resulting in loss of electron and ion confinement. It is demonstrated that the biased disk of an ECRIS can be used as a probe to quantify such instability-induced electron and ion losses occurring in less than 10 µs. The qualitative interpretation of the data is supported by the measurement of the energy spread of the extracted ion beams implying a transient plasma potential >1.5 kV during the instability. A parametric study of the electron losses combined with electron tracking simulations allows for estimating the fraction of electrons expelled in each instability event to be…

Ion source research and development at University of Jyväskylä: Studies of different plasma processes and towards the higher beam intensities

2015

MonPS16; International audience; The long-term operation of high charge state electron cyclotron resonance ion sources fed withhigh microwave power has caused damage to the plasma chamber wall in several laboratories.Porosity, or a small hole, can be progressively created in the wall on a year time scale, which cancause a water leak from the cooling system into the plasma chamber vacuum. A burnout of theVENUS chamber is investigated. Information on the hole formation and on the necessary localhot electron power density is presented. Next, the hot electron flux to the wall is studied bymeans of simulations. First, the results of a simple model assuming that electrons are fullymagnetized and …

Carbonyl-functionalized quaterthiophenes: a study of the vibrational Raman and electronic absorption/emission properties guided by theoretical calcul…

2011

This work investigates the evolution of the molecular, vibrational, and optical properties within a family of carbonyl-functionalized quaterthiophenes: 5,5'''-diheptanoyl-2,2':5',2'':5'',2'''-quaterthiophene (1), 5,5'''-diperfluorohexylcarbonyl-2,2':5',2'':5'',2'''-quaterthiophene (2), and 2,7-[bis(5-perfluorohexylcarbonylthien-2-yl)]-4H-cyclopenta[2,1-b:3,4-b']-dithiophene-4-one (3). The analysis is performed by Raman and UV/Vis absorption/excitation/fluorescence spectroscopy in combination with density functional calculations. Theoretical calculations show that substitution with carbonyl groups and perfluorohexyl chains induces progressive quinoidization of the π-conjugated backbone in co…

Multiple vibrational resonances in the Raman spectra of liquid ethanes

1990

The Raman spectra of liquid ethane, ethane-d3 and ethane-d6 were recorded and analysed. The CH3 and CD3 stretching regions were computer resolved using Cauchy-Gaussian and Voigt functions to account for asymmetric band shapes. Multiple vibrational resonances were investigated using the wavenumbers and observed intensities in these regions. The developed basis functions show strong mixing of the levels in these regions. In general the resonances appear to be less strong in the liquid phase than reported in previous studies of the gaseous state. Some new assignments in the liquid-state spectra of ethanes could be suggested.

Measurement of the laser resonance ionization efficiency for lutetium

2019

Abstract The development of a highly efficient resonance ionization scheme for lutetium is presented. A laser ion source, based on the all-solid-state Titanium:sapphire laser system, was used at the 30 keV RISIKO off-line mass separator to characterize different possible optical excitation schemes in respect to their ionization efficiency. The developed laser resonance ionization scheme can be directly applied to the use at radioactive ion beam facilities, e. g. at the CERN-MEDICIS facility, for large-scale production of medical radioisotopes.

The Taming of Redox‐Labile Phosphidotitanocene Cations

2019

International audience; Tame d0 phosphidotitanocene cations stabilized with a pendant tertiary phosphane arm are reported. These compounds were obtained by one-electron oxidation of d1 precursors with [Cp2Fe][BPh4]. The electronic structure of these compounds was studied experimentally (EPR, UV/Vis, and NMR spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction analysis) and through DFT calculations. The theoretical analysis of the bonding situation by using the electron localization function (ELF) shows the presence of π-interactions between the phosphido ligand and Ti in the d0 complexes, whereas dπ–pπ repulsion prevents such interactions in the d1 complexes. In addition, CH–π interactions were observed in seve…
