Prepublicaciones: distribucion centralizada vs. descentralizada.
2000
Prepublications are accounts of research results that are distributed prior to formal publication in scientific journals. They are the form of scholarly communication that has taken more advantage of the advances in telecommunication and information technologies. Their electronic distribution has taken a different form within the disciplines. In this paper we compare the decentralized model of Economies with the centralized model of Physics.

Employers’ Needs and Expectations for Qualified Employees (Case Study on the Opinions in One of the Regions in Latvia)
2015
Abstract Qualified, loyal and motivated employees are highly demanded by employers and business promoters. The paper deals with employers’ needs and expectations for qualified and loyal employees, and investigates cooperation of employers, educators and municipalities. The following methods were used: analysis of scientific publications; focus group discussions; surveys of employers, teaching staff, students and graduates of VEI. For survey data analysis descriptive statistical analysis, non-parametric statistical test of Kruskal-Wallis and factor analysis were applied. The main findings indicate that besides professional skills and competence, social competence, motivation to work and resp…
Developmental Dynamics of Math Performance From Preschool to Grade 2.
2004
This study investigated the developmental dynamics of mathematical performance during children's transition from preschool to Grade 2 and the cognitive antecedents of this development. 194 Finnish children were examined 6 times according to their math performance, twice during each year across a 3-year period. Cognitive antecedents, that is, counting ability, visual attention, metacognitive knowledge, and listening comprehension, were tested at the first measurement point. The results indicated that math performance showed high stability and increasing variance over time. Moreover, the growth of math competence was faster among those who entered preschool with an already high level of mathe…
Development of accelerometer-based light to vigorous physical activity in fitness profiles of school-aged children.
2021
This study examined the developmental trajectories of light (LPA) and moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) in fitness profiles derived from motor competence, perceived motor competence, health-related fitness, and MVPA behaviour. Locomotor, stability, and object-control skills, muscular and cardiovascular fitness, and physical activity were assessed in 510 (girls 285, boys 225) Finnish school-aged children (Mage = 11.26 ± .33 years) over three years. Physical activity was measured using hip-mounted accelerometers. Fitness profiles were identified using latent profile analysis and the development of physical activity levels across four assessments was analysed with latent growth cur…
Occupational Well‐being among Aging Teachers in Finland
1994
Abstract This article presents an examination of occupational well‐being among teachers in Finland who are over 45‐years of age (n = 1012). Occupational well‐being was described by affective (job anxiety and depression, burnout), behavioral (job competence and aspiration) and health (psychosomatic Symptoms and work ability) components. The structure of well‐being turned out to be two‐dimensional, consisting of affect‐health and behavior dimensions. The level of well‐being among aging teachers was quite high, although 36% of the teachers had Problems of well‐being related to both ajfect‐health and behavior. However, according to the work ability index, only 4% of the 45‐49‐year‐old and 12% o…
Teacher Competences for Facing Challenges of Globalisation in Education
2018
Aim. The aim of the research is to explore the characteristics of globalisation and highlight challenges resulting from the globalisation process in the teaching profession. Teachers are to be prepared to face any influence the globalisation brings in education: heterogeneous, diverse and multicultural classrooms due to the rise of migration, immigration and remigration; society’s expectations of and demands on the teacher regarding the learning process, its content and competences that students should develop to be prepared for their future.
Methods. The author carried out surveys among 205 pre-service and 110 in-service teachers; the paper focuses on the presentation of respondents’…
Multi-modal search for multiobjective optimization: an application to optimal smart grids management
2012
This paper studies the possibility to use efficient multimodal optimizers for multi-objective optimization. In this paper, the application area considered for such new approach is the optimal dispatch of energy sources in smart microgrids. The problem indeed shows a non uniform Pareto front and requires efficient optimal search methods. The idea is to exploit the potential of agents in population-based heuristics to improve diversity in the Pareto front, where solutions show the same rank and are thus equally weighted. Since Pareto dominance is at the basis of the theory of multi-objective optimization, most algorithms show the non dominance ranking as quality indicator, with some problem i…
The Health Competency Determinant Factors of Latvian Population
2013
Competencies develop and changes throughout a person’s life, they can gain or lose, going through various age stages. Their development does not end in youth, but continue on through the adult life. The ability to thing and reflect those thoughts specifically come forward in the center of structure of competency, which grows at the same time as the individual matures. One of the competency types is health competency. Health competency is a relatively new concept; it is not sufficiently researched. Aim of the study was to determine the factors of an adult individual health competency. 827 respondents participated in the study, in the processing of data was used SPSS. Was used factor analysis…
2021
The study aims were to 1) examine profiles of perception of motor competence (PMC) in relation to actual motor competence (AMC), i.e. under-estimators (UEs), realistic estimators (REs) and over-estimators (OEs) and 2) investigate associations between the profiles and selected socioecological factors at the individual, family and environmental levels. PMC (Pictorial Scale of Perceived Movement Skill Competence) and AMC (Test of Gross Motor Development-Third Edition) were administered to a representative sample of children from 37 childcare centres in Finland (n=441;6.2±0.6yrs;52% boys). Socioecological factors were investigated using a parental questionnaire. The three profiles were formed b…
