Smart Phone, Smart Science: How the Use of Smartphones Can Revolutionize Research in Cognitive Science

We show that this limitation and sampling bias can be overcome by using smartphone technology to collect data in cognitive science experiments from thousands of subjects from all over the world. Effect of inter-crystal scatter on estimation methods for random coincidences and subsequent correction.

Random coincidences can contribute substantially to the background in positron emission tomography (PET). Several estimation methods are being used for correcting them. The goal of this study was to investigate the validity of techniques for random coincidence estimation, with various low-energy thresholds (LETs). Simulated singles list-mode data of the MADPET-II small animal PET scanner were used as input. The simulations have been performed using the GATE simulation toolkit. Existence, uniqueness and comparison results for BSDEs with Lévy jumps in an extended monotonic generator setting

We show existence of a unique solution and a comparison theorem for a one-dimensional backward stochastic differential equation with jumps that emerge from a L\'evy process. The considered generators obey a time-dependent extended monotonicity condition in the y-variable and have linear time-dependent growth. Within this setting, the results generalize those of Royer (2006), Yin and Mao (2008) and, in the $L^2$-case with linear growth, those of Kruse and Popier (2016). Nonlinear Nonhomogeneous Robin Problems with Almost Critical and Partially Concave Reaction

We consider a nonlinear Robin problem driven by a nonhomogeneous differential operator, with reaction which exhibits the competition of two Caratheodory terms. One is parametric, $$(p-1)$$-sublinear with a partially concave nonlinearity near zero. The other is $$(p-1)$$-superlinear and has almost critical growth. Exploiting the special geometry of the problem, we prove a bifurcation-type result, describing the changes in the set of positive solutions as the parameter $$\lambda >0$$ varies.

Isometric endurance test of the cervical flexor muscles - Reliability and normative reference values.

Abstract Objective To obtain reference values for the isometric endurance test (IET) of the cervical flexor muscles, investigate its reproducibility, and compare the results with the maximal isometric strength test (MIST) of the cervical flexor muscles. This study aimed to evaluate the reliability and validity of the Neuro- Virtual Reality as tool for the neuropsychological assessment in OCD patients. We used the neuropsychological battery and a virtual version of the Multiple Errand Test (V-MET), developed using the NeuroVR software, in order to evaluate the executive functions, the ability to plan ahead on complex problem solving tasks in daily life in 30 obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) patients and 30 healthy controls. Rescue operations are very critical and sensitive. Only one-second delay could make a serious difference between life and death. Therefore, the delay in rescue operations must be reduced as much as possible. The siren signal can be used to warn other vehicles nearby the ambulance. However, it has no impact on the traffic lights, which is normally a main cause of delay in rescue operations.
