Lime slaker grits and biomass fly ash are solid wastes produced by the Kraft paper-pulp industry that are commonly disposed of in landfill. The paper intends to examine through three case studies the change introduced by the technology of reinforced concrete in the construction of domes. After a brief description of the geometric and architectural characteristics of reinforced concrete domes, the study focuses on three interventions, for which a considerable archival documentation was collected. Stoilow's theorem from 1928 states that a continuous, open, and light map between surfaces is a discrete map with a discrete branch set. This result implies that such maps between orientable surfaces are locally modeled by power maps z -> z(k) and admit a holomorphic factorization. Existing Niagara-type concrete cantilever bridges, which in Italy are called Gerber bridges, suffer from degradation due to reinforcement corrosion and a consequent reduced load-bearing capacity. The assessment of these structures is therefore an important part of the procedures for analyzing the state of existing bridges and any interventions required for their retrofitting. The control of the safety assessment of a dam is largely dependent on knowledge of the mechanical parameters of the actual construction, as well as its geological substratum. The application of geophysical methods can be used in existing dams to evaluate the materials (strength properties) and to verify if they match design expectations, as well as to contribute to the safety control.
