ABSTRACT: In the study presented here of some portraits by Lorenzo Lotto, I have attempted to establish a reading of the image, of the details that the artist offers us in his canvas which, to my way of thinking, orient us towards the semantic meaning of the painting. In this concrete case I deal with the theme of love. This entails, therefore, an in-depth exploration of the story that the artist wishes to consider through his work, with the aim of recording and classifying the image by analyzing both its graphic as well as literary precedents. ABSTRACT: In this study I deal briefly with some issues related to the visual culture of the Baroque festival; and more specifically, with those related to the royal portraits that were on display during the festive activities. To this end I place special emphasis on developing the concepts of presence, body and virtuality –as applied to those works or visual objects– from an approach that offers a new theoretical framework, namely, that which involves «image studies» or «visual culture studies» (Bildwissenschaft, Bildanthropologie y visual studies). José Vergara Gimeno y la retratística valenciana en el siglo XVIII

José Vergara (1726-1799) fue el fundador de la Academia de San Carlos, junto a su hermano Ignacio y a otros artistas valencianos, es el introductor de una renovación en el panorama artístico valenciano, que se plasmará en la redecoración de las iglesias valencianas, con complejos programas iconográficos al fresco y en los lienzos de altar. Sin embargo, uno de los aspectos inéditos de este artista es su pintura de retrato, en este artículo se pretende estudiar algunas de sus obras, la mayoría de ellas inéditas, con el fin de aportar una nueva visión de este artista de la segunda mitad del siglo dieciocho. El artículo presenta a Juan Melchor Pérez (doc. 1642-1650) como un escultor y fundidor sucesivamente al servicio del Duque de Montalto y Juan José de Austria, cuestiona la identificación de uno de los bustos de bronce firmados por él que se conserva en el Museo del Prado, se plantea la complejidad de determinar la autoría en las obras realizadas en bronce y el papel de los escultores de corte al servicio de familias nobles.
