Privacy Versus Security in the Internet Era
2015
Abstract There are a lots of conflict going on in the world right now. One of this conflict we are put into discussion here, is the battle for supremacy in the internet, the battle between privacy and security. We are changing fundamentally the way we are doing things till the Internet era arrive. Every data that we use online became a product. There is no more private information, everything became public with or without the population will. There are also a lot of discussion about who have a greater power on the Internet, government, companies, hackers, criminals, terrorists, or others. Unfortunately the neuter population is catch in the middle of this battle.
<title>Multifeature image and video content-based storage and retrieval</title>
1996
In this paper we present most recent evolution of JACOB, a system we developed for image and video content-based storage and retrieval. The system is based on two separate archives: a 'features DB' and a 'raw-data DB'. When a user puts a query, a search is done in the 'features DB'; the selected items are taken form the 'raw-data DB' and shown to the user. Two kinds of sessions are allowed: 'database population' and 'database querying'. During a 'database population' session the user inserts new data into the archive. The input data can consist of digital images or videos. Videos are split into shots and for each shot one or more representative frames are automatically extracted. Shots and …
Population and Query Interface for a Content-Based Video Database
2002
In this paper we describe the first full implementation of a content-based indexing and retrieval system for MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 videos. We consider a video as a collection of spatiotemporal segments called video objects; each video object is a sequence of video object planes. A set of representative video object planes is used to index each video object. During the database population, the operator, using a semi-automatic outlining tool we developed, manually selects video objects and insert some semantical information. Low-level visual features like color, texture, motion and geometry are automatically computed. The system has been implemented on a commercial relational DBMS and is based on…
3D inter-subject medical image registration by scatter search
2005
Image registration is a very active research area in computer vision, namely it is used to find a transformation between two images taken under different conditions. Point matching is an image registration approach based on searching for the right pairing of points between the two images. From this matching, the registration transformation we are searching, can be inferred by means of numerical methods. In this paper, we propose a scatter search (SS) algorithm to solve the matching problem. SS is a hybrid metaheuristic with a good trade-off between search space diversification and intensification. On the one hand, diversity is basically introduced from a population-based approach where syst…
Elliptical Fourier Descriptors for shape retrieval in biological images
2002
The retrieval of information in a standard database can be obtained in different ways and in some cases a number of steps are necessary to extract the sought for information. More difficulties exist when we are looking for a pictorial information in a database. This paper presents a method for finding an image in a biological database based on elliptical Fourier descriptors. Fourier descriptors are considered here as textual information and a distance function is proposed to evaluate the best result. Fourier descriptors and distance function are used to retrieve image in pictorial database.
What hampers green product innovation: the effect of experience
2019
Based on representative firm-level survey data for Austria, Germany, and Switzerland, this study systematically analyzes the relevance and drivers of barriers to green product innovation using the example of green energy technologies. “Low willingness to pay”, “high development costs”, “high commercial uncertainty”, and “lack of favorable political framework” are identified as the most important barriers. Moreover, we find that the firms’ innovation experience is an important driver of the level of green innovation barriers. Green innovation barriers are more accentuated for firms with green innovation activity than for firms with no green innovation activity. However, experience from diffe…
Balanced Large Scale Knowledge Matching Using LSH Forest
2015
Evolving Knowledge Ecosystems were proposed recently to approach the Big Data challenge, following the hypothesis that knowledge evolves in a way similar to biological systems. Therefore, the inner working of the knowledge ecosystem can be spotted from natural evolution. An evolving knowledge ecosystem consists of Knowledge Organisms, which form a representation of the knowledge, and the environment in which they reside. The environment consists of contexts, which are composed of so-called knowledge tokens. These tokens are ontological fragments extracted from information tokens, in turn, which originate from the streams of information flowing into the ecosystem. In this article we investig…
Digital Solutions in the Forest-Based Bioeconomy
2019
This chapter aims to illustrate the potential and significance of forest-based industry to take the lead in the sustainable development of the bio-based economy under digitalization. The digital solutions are transforming the forest-based industry by enabling the real-time end-to-end supply chain visibility, stock level optimization, demand planning, and real-time order status tracking and transparent, speedy, and hassle-free order fulfillment. In addition, increasing diversification corresponds to eco-consciousness, and shift in people’s preferences induces the transformation of forest-based bioeconomy into a digital platform industry. Further, this chapter will highlight the circular econ…
