TIME EVOLUTION OF LOCAL SCOURING DOWNSTREAM OF A RIGID BED:lessons learned from experiments
2018
This present work concerns the phenomenon of local erosion occurring downstream a rigid bed of a structure constructed along a river. In particular, attention is focused on the time evolution of the maximum scour depth. This chapter reports a brief review of findings obtained by author using both data appositely collected in a laboratory channel and literature data.
Reoperations After First Lumbar Disk Herniation Surgery with or without Implantation of Mechanical Annular Closure Device
2019
Lumbar diskectomy is a widely performed surgical procedure in patients affected by lumbar disk herniation (LDH). Such a surgical procedure is considered to be safe and able to provide a consistent symptomatic relief in most patients. However, perioperative complications have been reported, ranging from 13% to 15%, and pose a considerable financial burden among patients, hospitals, and national health care agencies. The most common perioperative complication following lumbar diskectomy for disk herniation is the recurrence. Although the recurrence rate of LDH has been reported to be 5%−15%, its exact incidence may be underestimated. Recurrent lumbar disk herniation (rLDH) is defined as disk …
The genus Bolbelasmus in the western and southern regions of the Mediterranean Basin (Coleoptera: Geotrupidae: Bolboceratinae)
2016
The Bolbelasmus Boucomont, 1911 species of the western and southern regions of the Mediterranean Basin (Northern Africa, Iberian Peninsula and France) are revised. The following three new species are described: Bolbelasmus brancoi Hillert & Král sp. nov. and Bolbelasmus howdeni Hillert & Král sp. nov., both from Spain and Gibraltar, and Bolbelasmus nikolajevi Hillert, Arnone, Král & Massa sp. nov. from Egypt, Libya and Tunisia. Bolbelasmus vaulogeri (Abeille de Perrin, 1898) stat. restit. is removed from synonymy with B. bocchus (Erichson, 1841) and reinstated as a separate species. Bolbelasmus romanorum Arnone & Massa, 2010 is considered a junior subjective synonym of B. vaulogeri. Lectoty…
The Middle Eastern Genus Ocnerosthenus Massa, 1995 (Insecta Orthoptera: Pamphagidae).
2007
The study of types and other specimens coming from the Middle East and original descriptions allowed us to propose the following conclusions. Five species belong to this genus inhabiting montane areas of Lebanon, Syria and Israel, O. verrucosus (Brunner, 1882), O. brunnerianus (Saussure, 1887), O. simulans (Bolivar, 1911), O. kneuckeri (Krauss, 1909) and O. lividipes (Fishelson, 1985). O. brunnerianus is distributed over the North-West of Syria. Distribution of O. simulans covers the mountains of Central-North Lebanon, O. kneuckeri lives on the mountains of Central-South Lebanon and O. lividipes on Mt. Hermon. Type locality of O. verrucosus is Syria and it seems impossible to locate it more…
A taxonomic revision of western Eupholidoptera bush crickets (Orthoptera: Tettigoniidae): testing the discrimination power of DNA barcode.
2014
The genus Eupholidoptera includes 46 Mediterranean species distributed from Turkey to Greece, Italy and southern France. In the eastern part of its range, Eupholidoptera has been considered to consist of several distinct species, while in the Balkans and Italian peninsula only E. chabrieri has been recognized. However, the status of some Italian populations, confined to particular geographic areas, remains uncertain. To investigate the delimitation of the Italian taxa of Eupholidoptera, we performed both morphological and molecular analyses. Morphological analysis was carried out by considering diagnostic characters usually used to distinguish different taxa, such as the shape of titillator…
