Celem artykułu jest identyfikacja i ocena uwarunkowań oraz znaczenia rewitalizacji w polityce rozwoju. Badania przeprowadzono na przykładzie działań rewitalizacyjnych podejmowanych w województwie opolskim w latach 2007–2013. Opierały się one na analizie projektów rewitalizacyjnych wykonanych w ramach działań 6.1 i 6.2 RPO WO 2007–2013. Analiza ta została wykonana na podstawie: weryfikacji dokumentacji dotyczącej przedmiotowych inicjatyw rewitalizacyjnych, badań fokusowych z przedstawicielami władz oraz mieszkańcami miast, w których realizowano projekty, badań ankietowych z przedstawicielami wszystkich JST w województwie opolskim. Celem artykułu jest identyfikacja wpływu działań rewitalizacyjnych w odniesieniu do zasad zrównoważonego rozwoju. Analizę podjętych inicjatyw o charakterze rewitalizacyjnym przeprowadzono w oparciu o miasta w województwie opolskim. Pierwsza część artykułu jest poświęcona teorii zrównoważonego miasta i znaczenia procesów ożywienia miasta. This thesis investigates public art and art festivals in the West, and a large scale art project in Japan, Benesse Art Site Naoshima, which is yet to be defined its place in the academic world. Through the case study of Benesse Art Site Naoshima, public art, site-specific art, art festivals, and a role of art museums are discussed. With the explosion of urban waterfront revitalization projects in the developed world, it is timely to reflect on the relations between cities and their rivers: how the rivers influenced development of the cities, how cities have treated their riverfronts since 19th century, and how the spatial relations of city and river constrain and enable improved connectivity between urban populations and their rivers.
