We have translated and annotated an extended review from "Blackwood's Edinburgh Magazine" reporting on the publication, in English translation, of "Promenade de Dieppe aux montagnes d'Écosse" by Charles Nodier ("Promenade from Dieppe to the Mountains of Scotland", Edinburg, Blackwood, London, Cadell, 1822). À partir d'une enquête dans les comptes-rendus et dans les articles parus dans L'Homme, Revue Française d'anthropologie, depuis la fondation de la revue en 1961 jusqu'en 2007, cet article propose une première analyse de la place et du rôle joué par le " Moyen Âge " dans les milieux structuralistes français. Face à la prédominance de l'intérêt pour l'Antiquité classique, notamment helléniste, origine idéalisée de l' " Occident ", le Moyen Âge est presque absent. Il n'en reste pas moins que pour certains anthropologues, il sert d'horizon de référence à une certaine idée monolithique et atemporelle du " christianisme ".
