CO2 is fixed by a Cu2+ complex of a macrocyclic terpyridinophane ligand forming a carbamate group. Several features of the structure mimic the enzyme rubisco.

On the effect of the nature of counterions on the self-assembly of polyoxyethylene alkyl ether carboxylic acids

In this contribution, we investigate the effect of the type of counterion on the properties of dilute solutions of polyoxyethylene alkyl ether carboxylic acids. Two different surfactants, presenting an oleic acid alkyl chain and on-average five and nine ethylene oxide units, and terminated by a weakly anionic carboxymethyl group were studied. The surfactants were gradually ionized with sodium hydroxide, arginine, and choline hydroxide. Organic matter and wettability characteristics of wildfire ash from Mediterranean conifer forests

Abstract Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and water repellency (wettability) determination of ash samples collected following wildfires at four different Mediterranean conifer forest sites in eastern Spain were conducted to provide insights into variations in key chemical and physical characteristics of ash. TGA allowed the evaluation of organic matter (OM) and inorganic carbonate (IC) characteristics and their role in ash wettability. Monte Carlo Simulations of Parallel Charged Platelets as an Approach to Tactoid Formation in Clay

The free energy of interaction between parallel charged platelets with divalent counterions has been calculated using Monte Carlo simulations to investigate the electrostatic effects on aggregation. The platelets are primarily intended to represent clay particles. With divalent counterions, the free energy for two platelets or two tactoids (clusters of parallel platelets) shows a minimum at a short separation due to the attraction caused by ion-ion correlations. In a salt-free system, the free energy of interaction has a long-range repulsive tail beyond the minimum. Soluble/MOF-Supported Palladium Single Atoms Catalyze the Ligand-, Additive-, and Solvent-Free Aerobic Oxidation of Benzyl Alcohols to Benzoic Acids.

Metal single-atom catalysts (SACs) promise great rewards in terms of metal atom efficiency. However, the requirement of particular conditions and supports for their synthesis, together with the need of solvents and additives for catalytic implementation, often precludes their use under industrially viable conditions. Here, we show that palladium single atoms are spontaneously formed after dissolving tiny amounts of palladium salts in neat benzyl alcohols, to catalyze their direct aerobic oxidation to benzoic acids without ligands, additives, or solvents. Cobalt nickel bimetallic nanoparticles were synthesized by changing the sequence of the chemical reduction of Co(II) and Ni(II) ions confined in the core of bis(2-ethylhexyl)phosphate (2)., and Ni(DEHP)(2). The reduction was carried out by mixing, sequentially or contemporaneously, fixed amounts of n-heptane solution of Co(DEHP)2 and Ni(DEHP)2 micelles with a solution of sodium borohydride in ethanol at a fixed (reductant)/(total metal) molar ratio. A chemically specific and facile method for the immobilization of metal oxide nanoparticles onto the surface of IF-MoS2 nested fullerenes is reported. The modification strategy is based on the chalcophilic affinity of transition metals such as Fe2+/Fe3+, Fe3+, or Zn2+ as described by the Pearson HSAB concept. The binding capabilities of the 3d metals are dictated by their Pearson hardness. Pearson hard cations such as Fe3+ (Fe2O3) do not bind to the chalcogenide surfaces; borderline metals such as Fe2+ (Fe3O4) or Zn2+ (ZnO) bind reversibly. Effective Recovery Process of Copper from Waste Printed Circuit Boards Utilizing Recycling of Leachate

AbstractThis study presents an optimized leaching and electrowinning process for the recovery of copper from waste printed circuit boards including studies of chemical consumption and recirculation of leachate. Optimization of leaching was performed using response surface methodology in diluted sulfuric acid and hydrogen peroxide media. Optimum leaching conditions for copper were found by using 3.6 mol L−1 sulfuric acid, 6 vol.% hydrogen peroxide, pulp density of 75 g L−1 with 186 min leaching time at 20°C resulting in complete leaching of copper followed by over 92% recovery and purity of 99.9% in the electrowinning.
