Hypertension is the most common cardiovascular disorder and atrial fibrillation is the most common clinically significant arrhythmia. Both these conditions frequently coexist and their prevalence increases rapidly with aging. Prevention of venous thromboembolic events occurring in myeloma patients treated with second-generation novel agents

Thrombosis and neoplasms are strictly linked, and the diagnosis of a malignancy is a relevant risk factor for venous thromboembolism (VTE). In particular, between gammopathies, the VTE risk is known to be increased in both monoclonal gammopathy of uncertain significance and in multiple myeloma, with a 3- and 9-fold increase respectively, when compared to the general population. The risk appears to be further increased in patients treated with immunomodulating drugs, such as thalidomide, especially when in combination with dexamethasone or conventional cytotoxic chemotherapies, and lenalidomide. Patients with locked-in syndrome (LIS) are typically unable to move or communicate and can be misdiagnosed as patients with disorders of consciousness (DOC). Behavioral assessment scales are limited in their ability to detect signs of consciousness in this population. In the chronic stage of myocardial infarction, a significant number of patients develop life-threatening ventricular tachycardias (VT) due to the arrhythmogenic nature of the remodeled myocardium. Regulation of the human bradykinin B2 receptor expressed in sf21 insect cells: A possible role for tyrosine kinases

The functional regulation of the human bradykinin B2 receptor expressed in sf21 cells was studied. Human bradykinin B2 receptors were immunodetected as a band of 75–80 kDa in membranes from recombinant baculovirus-infected cells and visualized at the plasma membrane, by confocal microscopy, using an antibody against an epitope from its second extracellular loop. B2 receptors, detected in membranes by [3H-bradykinin] binding, showed a Kd of 0.66 nmol/L and an expression level of 2.57 pmol/mg of protein at 54 h postinfection. We aimed to investigate the functional relevance of the endometrial leptin receptor (OB-R) in the adhesion phase of human implantation. The impact of type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) on cardiac structure and function is known, although the relationship between DM and ARD is not clear.
