Effects of a French remedial program on pupils’ educational outcomes
2018
International audience; Few studies have examined the French “Networks for Specialized Assistance to Pupils in Difficulty” (Rased). In this article, we evaluate the impact of receiving Rased services in the first year of primary schooling on academic success. Using data from a national panel study, we find inconsistency in student selection within Rased. Using matching methods, our results reveal that pupils who benefited from the program school have a higher probability of grade repetition and obtain significantly lower scores on the third grade national assessment, particularly in mathematics, compared to pupils with similar characteristics who did not take part in the program. This impac…
Public Financial Management Reforms: The Role of Ipsas in Latin-America
2016
Summary During the last 30 years, many public administration reforms promoted by New Public Management have been undertaken. These reforms have spread to Latin-American countries and include changes in governmental accounting systems, where the implementation of International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSASs) has been a stimulus for modernization. This article aims to clarify the situation of IPSASs implementation in the Latin-American context as well as the stimuli for and effects of their implementation. The analysis shows that there is an emerging international trend to adopt IPSASs in Latin-American countries although at the same time, there are evident obstacles to achieving …
PRAGMÁTICA DE LA PUNTUACIÓN Y NUEVAS TECNOLOGÍAS
2014
Punctuation has evolved through history, not only in the numb…

The spontaneous use of memory aids at different educational levels
1996
Three groups of students in different educational levels: 8th–9th grade students (average age 15); 10th–11th grade students (average age 16); and college students (average age 21), completed a metamemory questionnaire on the use of external, general, and formal memory aids in everyday life and study situations. Short-term repetition, mental rehearsing, and summary elaboration were the most frequent aids. The least frequently used were those that require a special training to be used effectively (e.g. Digit-letters and method of loci). There were differences in the use of general memory aids due to education level, but not in the case of external and formal memory aids. Results showed also t…
EFFECT OF THE INTRODUCTION OF PAUSES BETWEEN REPETITIONS IN THE CAPACITY TO SUSTAIN MAXIMAL MAGNITUDES OF PEAK VELOCITY DURING BENCH PRESS
2013
Background An important number of sport modalities sustain its performance in the capacity to repeat efficiently a sport movement without fatigue. However, it is a fact that this mechanism will appear and affect the athletes9 velocity magnitudes. The aim of this study was to compare the Peak Velocity (PV) in two protocols: Traditional Training (TT) vs. 20 s inter-repetition rest (IRR) with the Optimal Load (OL) for the maximal Power output (OL: 50.7±8.0% of 1-RM). Methods Fifteen male, physical education students, participated in this study (age: 23.1±1.6 years; height: 177.1±7.7 cm; mass: 76.2±9.2 kg; 1-RM: 93.8±14.3 kg; 1-RM/mass: 1.24±0.21). After the validation of the bench press 1-RM a…
Effect of Material Organization on Memory in an Incidental Learning Task Performed under Repeated Maintenance
2009
The present paper investigates the effect of organizational variables on long term retention of material recycled under maintenance rehearsal. Subjects repeated a series of words as a distracting task, expecting to be tested on the recall of numbers (GLENBERG & ADAMS, 1978). An unexpected test on the recall of words showed the superiority of the recall of organized words, and a significant interaction of organization by time spent in repetition of the distractor material. The present experiment, because of the requirement of written, and not oral, repetition of the distractor material, is a more stringent test of the postulated consequences of type I rehearsal according to leve1 of processi…
EFFECT OF THE INTER-REPETITION REST LENGTH IN THE CAPACITY TO REPEAT PEAK POWER OUTPUT
2013
Background High volumes of work affect the movement technical quality, reducing the muscular capacity to develop high magnitudes of force. One of the most important parameters that we can use to regulate the training loads are the inter-repetition rests (IRR). The purpose of this study was to compare the Peak Power output (PP) magnitudes in three different inter-repetition length sets with Optimal Load (OL) in Bench Press (BP). Methods Our sample was formed by 16 male physical education students (age: 23.6±2.1 years; height: 178.2±6.9 cm; mass: 78.3±7.2 kg; 1RM: 90.2±13.9 kg; 1RM/mass: 1.15±0.16), who performed the BP test with different IRR with OL (48.8±7.2% of 1RM; 44.2±11.5 kg). After e…
A model explaining some bryozoan colonies
2008
AbstractAlthough the colonialism surely developed independently in Graptolithoidea and Bryozoa, both groups share similar patterns of astogeny. One of the common features is the presence of morphological gradients. Many attempts at its explanation were made for more than a half of the century. This paper discusses a new model of the late astogeny in some bryozoan colonies, showing a cyclic reappearance of secondary zones of astogenetic change and astogenetic repetition that cannot be explained by the single morphogen gradient theory.
The Influence of Hierarchical Masks on Masked Repetition Priming: Evidence From Event-Related Potential Investigation
2019
The discussion about relationship between prime and target has contributed to the mechanism of priming effect and object recognition. Nevertheless, the role of relationship between mask and target in those cognitive processes remains unquestioned. In the present study, we aim to investigate how mask-target hierarchical relationship may affect word priming and familiarity, by using the masked repetition paradigm and manipulating three hierarchical relationship between mask and target. It is hypothesized that a closer hierarchical relationship between mask and target is associated with a higher mask target similarity, and thereby it leads to a worse recognition performance. Our behavioral res…
