A review of diagnostics and prognostics of low-speed machinery towards wind turbine farm-level health management
2016
Abstract Large wind farms are gaining prominence due to increasing dependence on renewable energy. In order to operate these wind farms reliably and efficiently, advanced maintenance strategies such as condition based maintenance are necessary. However, wind turbines pose unique challenges in terms of irregular load patterns, intermittent operation and harsh weather conditions, which have deterring effects on life of rotating machinery. This paper reviews the state-of-the-art in the area of diagnostics and prognostics pertaining to two critical failure prone components of wind turbines, namely, low-speed bearings and planetary gearboxes. The survey evaluates those methods that are applicabl…
Parallel distributed compensation for voltage controlled active magnetic bearing system using integral fuzzy model
2018
Parallel Distributed Compensation (PDC) for current-controlled Active Magnetic Bearing System (AMBS) has been quite effective in recent years. However, this method does not take into account the dynamics associated with the electromagnet. This limits the method to smaller scale applications where the electromagnet dynamics can be neglected. Voltage-controlled AMBS is used to overcome this limitation but this comes with serious challenges such as complex mathematical modelling and higher order system control. In this work, a PDC with integral part is proposed for position and input tracking control of voltage-controlled AMBS. PDC method is based on nonlinear Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model. …
ParDRe: faster parallel duplicated reads removal tool for sequencing studies
2016
This is a pre-copyedited, author-produced version of an article accepted for publication in Bioinformatics following peer review. The version of record [insert complete citation information here] is available online at: https://doi.org/10.1093/bioinformatics/btw038 [Abstract] Summary: Current next generation sequencing technologies often generate duplicated or near-duplicated reads that (depending on the application scenario) do not provide any interesting biological information but can increase memory requirements and computational time of downstream analysis. In this work we present ParDRe , a de novo parallel tool to remove duplicated and near-duplicated reads through the clustering of S…
Strategic Syntheses of Vine and Wine Resveratrol Derivatives to Explore their Effects on Cell Functions and Dysfunctions
2018
Trans-resveratrol, the most well-known polyphenolic stilbenoid, is found in grapes and accordingly in wine and it is considered to be beneficial for human health, especially towards the aging-linked cell alterations by providing numerous biological activities, such as anti-oxidant, antitumoral, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective, and platelet anti-aggregation properties. Although trans-resveratrol is a promising molecule, it cannot be considered as a drug, due to its weak bio-availability and fast metabolism. To overcome these weaknesses, several research teams have undertaken the synthesis of innovative trans-resveratrol derivatives, with the aim to increase its solubility in wa…
Infinitesimal deformations of double covers of smooth algebraic varieties
2003
The goal of this paper is to give a method to compute the space of infinitesimal deformations of a double cover of a smooth algebraic variety. The space of all infinitesimal deformations has a representation as a direct sum of two subspaces. One is isomorphic to the space of simultaneous deformations of the branch locus and the base of the double covering. The second summand is the subspace of deformations of the double covering which induce trivial deformations of the branch divisor. The main result of the paper is a description of the effect of imposing singularities in the branch locus. As a special case we study deformations of Calabi--Yau threefolds which are non--singular models of do…
Lie Algebras Generated by Extremal Elements
1999
We study Lie algebras generated by extremal elements (i.e., elements spanning inner ideals of L) over a field of characteristic distinct from 2. We prove that any Lie algebra generated by a finite number of extremal elements is finite dimensional. The minimal number of extremal generators for the Lie algebras of type An, Bn (n>2), Cn (n>1), Dn (n>3), En (n=6,7,8), F4 and G2 are shown to be n+1, n+1, 2n, n, 5, 5, and 4 in the respective cases. These results are related to group theoretic ones for the corresponding Chevalley groups.
Direct measurement of resonance driving terms in the super proton synchrotron (SPS) of cern using beam position monitors
2003

Perspectives for the Treatment of Brucellosis in the 21st Century: The Ioannina Recommendations
2007
Policy Forum. Competing interests: ER has received research grants from Daiichi, Bayer, and Theravance and has served as a consultant to Pfizer, Theravance, Bayer, Wyeth, Rosetta, and BiondVax. Summary Points Brucellosis remains the commonest anthropozoonosis worldwide, and its treatment remains complex, requiring protracted administration of more than one antibiotic. In November 2006, a consensus meeting aimed at reaching a common specialist statement on the treatment of brucellosis was held in Ioannina, Greece under the auspices of the International Society of Chemotherapy and the Institute of Continuing Medical Education of Ioannina. The author panel suggests that the optimal treatment o…
Present status and first results of the final focus beam line at the KEK Accelerator Test Facility
2011
ATF2 is a final-focus test beam line which aims to focus the low emittance beam from the ATF damping ring to a vertical size of about 37 nm and to demonstrate nanometer level beam stability. Several advanced beam diagnostics and feedback tools are used. In December 2008, construction and installation were completed and beam commissioning started, supported by an international team of Asian, European, and U.S. scientists. The present status and first results are described.
