Dosimetric effect of respiratory motion on planned dose in whole-breast volumetric modulated arc therapy using moderate and ultra-hypofractionation.

2021

Abstract Background and purpose The interplay effect of respiratory motion on the planned dose in free-breathing right-sided whole-breast irradiation (WBI) were studied by simulating hypofractionated VMAT treatment courses. Materials and methods Ten patients with phase-triggered 4D-CT images were included in the study. VMAT plans targeting the right breast were created retrospectively with moderately hypofractionated (40.05 Gy in 15 fractions of 2.67 Gy) and ultra-hypofractionated (26 Gy 5 fractions of 5.2 Gy) schemes. 3D-CRT plans were generated as a reference. All plans were divided into respiratory phase-specific plans and calculated in the corresponding phase images. Fraction-specific d…

Effectiveness of peer support on health-related quality of life in recently diagnosed breast cancer patients : a randomized controlled trial

2019

Purpose: Breast cancer is the most common cancer of Finnish women. Peer support could be a way to help breast cancer patients to deal with the disease but studies on its effectiveness have produced conflicting results. The aim of this randomized controlled trial was to study the effectiveness of peer support on health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of breast cancer patients. Methods: Patients with recently diagnosed breast cancer at the Helsinki University Hospital were randomly allocated to intervention (n = 130) or control (n = 130) groups. The intervention group patients received peer support via telephone one to five times according to their preference. The control group received usual…

PTTG1-interacting protein (PTTG1IP/PBF) predicts breast cancer survival.

2017

Background: PTTG1-interacting protein (PTTG1IP) is an oncogenic protein, which participates in metaphase-anaphase transition of the cell cycle through activation of securin (PTTG1). PTTG1IP promotes the shift of securin from the cell cytoplasm to the nucleus, allowing the interaction between separase and securin. PTTG1IP overexpression has been previously observed in malignant disease, e.g. in breast carcinoma. However, the prognostic value of PTTG1IP in breast carcinoma patients has not previously been revealed. Methods: A total of 497 breast carcinoma patients with up to 22-year follow-up were analysed for PTTG1IP and securin immunoexpression. The results were evaluated for correlations w…

Health-related Quality of Life of Breast Cancer Survivors Attending an Exercise Intervention Study : A Five-year Follow-up

2020

Background/Aim: As the number of breast cancer survivors is increasing, their long-term health-related quality of life (HRQoL)has become an important issue. The aim of the study is to follow up the HRQoL of breast cancer survivors (BCS) in a prospectiverandomized exercise intervention study and to compare HRQoL to that of the age-matched general female population. Patients and Methods: Following adjuvant treatment, 537 patients aged 35-68 and capable of exercise training were randomized to a 12-monthexercise trial. In 182 of those patients, HRQoL was measured by the generic 15D at baseline and followed up for five years.Furthermore, the HRQoL of all BCS answering the 15D at five-year follow…

Fyysisen aktiivisuuden yhteys rintasyövän erilaistumisasteeseen postmenopausaalisilla naisilla

2015

Rintasyöpä on naisten yleisin syöpä länsimaissa ja eniten sitä esiintyy yli 60-vuotiailla. Postmenopausaalisen rintasyövän riskiin voidaan vaikuttaa fyysisen aktiivisuuden avulla. Fyysisen aktiivisuuden on aikaisemmissa tutkimuksissa todettu olevan yhteydessä rintasyöpäriskiin siten, että liikuntaa harrastavilla rintasyöpäriski on pienempi kuin vähän liikkuvilla. Tämän työn tarkoituksena oli selvittää, onko fyysinen aktiivisuus yhteydessä rintasyövän histologiseen erilaistumisasteeseen postmenopausaalisilla naisilla. Lisäksi tutkittiin, mitkä muut tekijät ovat yhteydessä rintasyövän histologiseen erilaistumisasteeseen. Tämän poikkileikkaustutkimuksen aineistona on käytetty 12 kuukautta kest…

Effect of Combining Impact-Aerobic and Strength Exercise, and Dietary Habits on Body Composition in Breast Cancer Survivors Treated with Aromatase In…

2023

This study examines both the effect of a twice-weekly combined exercise—1 h session of strength and 1 h session of impact-aerobic—on body composition and dietary habits after one year of treatment with aromatase inhibitors (AI) in breast cancer survivors. Overall, forty-three postmenopausal women with a BMI ≤ 35 kg/m2, breast cancer survivors treated with AI, were randomized into two groups: a control group (CG) (n = 22) and a training group (IG) (n = 21). Body composition, i.e., abdominal, visceral, and subcutaneous adipose tissue) was measured by magnetic resonance. In addition, some questionnaires were used to gather dietary data and to measure adherence to the Mediterranean diet. After …

Physiotherapy for the functioning of breast cancer patients : studies of the effectiveness of physiotherapy methods and exercise, of the content and …

2005

These studies were undertaken to create a broader understanding of the effectiveness of physiotherapy methods and exercise, and to evaluate the requirements, content and timing of physiotherapy services after breast cancer surgery. The first study, critical review and meta-analysis, showed that with shoulder movements after breast cancer surgery the whole range of motion movements should be delayed for several days. The review indicates that methods of lymphedema therapy are various, but only some have scientific support for their effectiveness. The use of an elastic sleeve is supported by the studies. Lymph massage alone has not been studied, and the effect of exercise on the prevention and…

Fyysisen aktiivisuuden ja kehonkoostumuksen assosiaatiot naisten rintasyövän esiintyvyyteen : perhetutkimus

2016

Rintasyöpä on Suomessa naisten yleisin syöpätauti ja positiivinen sukuhistoria on rintasyövän merkittävin yksittäinen riskitekijä. Vuonna 2013 Suomessa todettiin 4831 uutta rintasyöpätapausta ja ennuste vuodelle 2027 on noin 6000 uutta tapausta vuosittain. Fyysisesti aktiivisilla naisilla on merkitsevästi alentunut riski sairastua rintasyöpään.
