A survey dataset to evaluate the changes in mobility and transportation due to COVID-19 travel restrictions in Australia, Brazil, China, Ghana, India…

2020

COVID-19 pandemic has heavily impacted the global community. To curb the viral transmission, travel restrictions have been enforced across the world. The dataset documents the mobility disruptions and the modal shifts that have occurred as a consequence of the restrictive measures implemented in ten countries: Australia, Brazil, China, Ghana, India, Iran, Italy, Norway, South Africa and the United States. An online questionnaire was distributed during the period from the 11st to the 31st of May 2020, with a total of 9 394 respondents. The first part of the survey has characterized the frequency of use of all transport modes before and during the enforcement of the restrictions, while the se…

Why Some Internet Users Don’t Buy Air Tickets Online

2010

This work attempts to identify the determinant variables that make some Internet users not to buy airline tickets online. The Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) have been used as the conceptual reference framework, with the addition of the influence of perceived risk and trust. The results of the empirical study of Internet users who never have purchased an airline ticket online suggest that both subjective norm and attitude have a direct influence on airline ticket purchase intention. Ease of use has also proved to be a significant variable, because it has an indirect influence on behaviour through perceived usefulness, trust and risk. Risk, trust a…

Risk taking in natural predation risk gradients: support for risk allocation from breeding pied flycatchers

2011

Predation risk is vital in foraging decisions because activity involves some degree of risk. In a natural setting, predation risk shows temporal variation, which has been largely neglected in antipredator studies. We tested a prediction of the risk allocation hypothesis in which allocation to antipredator behaviours will depend on temporal variation in perceived risk. Individuals are predicted to allocate heightened antipredator behaviours to brief infrequent periods of high risk, but with increasing frequency of high-risk periods, individuals will invest less in these behaviours. We tested this prediction using pied flycatchers, Ficedula hypoleuca , breeding at different distances from spa…

Risk Perception of Air Pollution: A Systematic Review Focused on Particulate Matter Exposure

2020

The adverse health effects of exposure to air pollutants, notably to particulate matter (PM), are well-known, as well as the association with measured or estimated concentration levels. The role of perception can be relevant in exploring effects and pollution control actions. The purpose of this study was to explore studies that analyse people’s perception, together with the measurement of air pollution, in order to elucidate the relationship between them. We conducted a systematic review in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. In March 2020, PubMed, EMBASE, and Scopus databases were explored in an attempt to search for …

Risk perception and knowledge of COVID-19 in patients with celiac disease

2021

BACKGROUND We recently demonstrated that the odds of contracting coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in patients with celiac disease (CeD) is similar to that of the general population. However, how patients with CeD perceive their COVID-19 risk may differ from their actual risk. AIM To investigate risk perceptions of contracting COVID-19 in patients with CeD and determine the factors that may influence their perception. METHODS We distributed a survey throughout 10 countries between March and June 2020 and collected data on demographics, diet, COVID-19 testing, and risk perceptions of COVID-19 in patients with CeD. Participants were recruited through various celiac associations, clinic visi…

Risk perception of sars-cov-2 infection and implementation of various protective measures by dentists across various countries

2021

Objective: Healthcare workers in general are at a high risk of potential infections with COVID-19, especially those who work with aerosol generating procedures. Dentists fall in this category, as not only do they operate with aerosol generating procedures but also operate within a face-to-face contact area. Methods: A structured self-administered questionnaire was developed at Najran University and provided to the participants for data collection. The data collected included information on risk perception and incorporation of measures for protection against COVID-19 to gauge the attitude of dentists during this period. Also, clinical implementation of various protective measures was reviewe…

Risk communication and risk perception : the case of nuclear power public debate in Lithuania

2012

The purpose of the present study is to investigate the risk communication of organizations and risk understanding, or risk perception, of the public at large. The theoretical analysis generates the methodological model of risk communication and risk perception. This framework provides the ground for the empirical study focusing on nuclear power debate in Lithuania with the purpose of investigating the overall risk communication of Lithuanian organizations in relation to nuclear power issues, as well as citizens’ perceptions about the technology. The empirical investigation is based on a content analysis of qualitative data concerning risk communication of the target organizations, as well a…

Health Information Seeking Among University Students Before and During the Corona Crisis—Findings From Germany

2021

Health information-seeking behavior is the process of gathering information about health and disease and can be influential for health-related perception and behavior. University students are an important target group for prevention and health promotion and largely belong to an age group that is considered to play a leading role in propagating the SARS-CoV-2 epidemic in Germany. The paper deals with students' health information-seeking behavior before and during the corona crisis, aiming to give insights into its determinants and implications. Using the example of a large German comprehensive university and based on two cross-sectional surveys in the summer of 2019 (n = 4,351) and 2020 (n =…

RISK PERCEPTION AND PSYCHOLOGICAL DISTRESS IN THE GENETIC COUNSELLING FOR HEREDITARY BREAST AND/OR OVARIAN CANCER

Background: Cancer genetic counselling allows the identification of a genetic component that increases the risk of developing a tumor. The psychological reactions are influenced by both the content of the information received, from both the subjetive perception of their own risk of becoming ill or being pruner of genetic mutation. Materials and Methods: This study included 120 participants who underwent genetic counselling for breast and/or ovarian cancer. The aim of the study was to examine the relation between the Cancer Risk Perception and the Genetic Risk during genetic counselling before testing, considering the influence of psychological variables, in particular distress, anxiety and …

Interpersonal Relationship Aspects as Perceived Risk and Social Support Factors in a Clinical Sample of Adolescents With Depression

2020

Abstract The goal of this qualitative study was to explore how adolescents with diagnosed depression describe their social relationships with peers, parents and teachers. Several previous findings have revealed the dual role of interpersonal relationships — as a stressor and contributor to different mental disorders, and also as a source of social support for mental health. Previous studies confirmed the value of a qualitative approach in exploring the self-perceived experiences of adolescents. The research group consisted of 28 adolescents, aged 13–17, with a diagnosis of depression. Individual semistructured interviews (Children's Depression Rating Scale Revised; CDRS-R) were applied in t…
