The Predictive Properties of Psychiatric Diagnoses, Dynamic Risk and Dynamic Risk Change Assessed by the VRS-SO in Forensically Admitted and Released…

2020

Psychiatric diagnoses, static risk factors and criminogenic needs at time of admission and release were examined in a mentally ill sample of psychiatrically detained sexual offenders. Although clinically found to be at low or even very low risk at discharge, 12% reoffended sexually over an average follow up of 7 years. Psychotic disorders were present in only 5% of offenders, whereas 93% had a personality disorder diagnosis and 76%, a paraphilic disorder diagnosis. Only exhibitionism and alcohol misuse were associated with relapse. Static risk factors captured by the Static-99 also did not significantly predict recidivism; however, the VRS-SO – a structured risk assessment tool that assesse…

Recommendations for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of chronic hepatitis B and C in special population groups (migrants, intravenous drug us…

2011

Abstract The global spread of hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV), their high chronicity rates and their progression to cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma, are major public health problems. Research and intervention programmes for special population groups are needed in order to assess their infection risk and set up suitable prevention and control strategies. Aim of this paper is to give health care professionals information on HBV and HCV infections amongst migrants, drug users and prison inmates. The manuscript is an official Position Paper on behalf of the following Scientific Societies: Italian Association for the Study of the Liver (A.I.S.F.), Italian Society of In…

Evaluating the statistical methodology of randomized trials on dentin hypersensitivity management

2017

The present study aimed to evaluate the characteristics and quality of statistical methodology used in clinical studies on dentin hypersensitivity management. An electronic search was performed for data published from 2009 to 2014 by using PubMed, Ovid/MEDLINE, and Cochrane Library databases. The primary search terms were used in combination. Eligibility criteria included randomized clinical trials that evaluated the efficacy of desensitizing agents in terms of reducing dentin hypersensitivity. A total of 40 studies were considered eligible for assessment of quality statistical methodology. The four main concerns identified were i) use of nonparametric tests in the presence of large samples…

Autonomía y pacientes reclusos

2007

The authors study a recent Spanish High Court decision declaring liability on the Administration’s part for the death of an inmate in a prison hospital. We analyse the Court’s decision using legal, ethical, medical and social perspectives. The conclusions are that: 1. the Administration has no legitimate right to force a prisoner to take medical treatment, except in circumstances in which there is a grave and definite risk to the patient’s life, or when the patient lacks capacity or when there is the risk of harm to the health of third parties; 2. That in the case of health decision making that might affect a patient, the Court has mounted a frontal attack on the autonomy of patients in pri…

Inattentional deafness under dynamic musical conditions

2009

While inattentional blindness is a modern classic in attention and perception research, analogous phenomena of inattentional deafness are less well-known. In music, inattentional deafness has never been demonstrated under controlled experimental conditions, despite of indirect evidence for related effects. We tested inattentional deafness with real music in both musicians and non-musicians. Participants listened to the first 1’50” of Richard Strauss’ Thus Spake Zarathustra, with the experimental group having the task of counting the number of tympani beats and the control group just listening. The unexpected event was an e-guitar solo during the last 20s of this sequence. In Study 1, among …

Rozpracowanie oficerów - byłych jeńców wojennych w Wojsku Polskim w latach 1945-1948

2016

The Chief Information Office of the Polish Army conducted a review of Polish officers im p risoned in the German captivity during the World War II. As early as from the Danuta Kisielewicz year 1945 the Chief Information Office conducted counter-espionage investigations and inquiries in order to review and control the situation in the army, to draw conclusions about mobilization or promotion to higher ranks. Obtaining information on the officers was to determine a criterion of including them into the military service depending on their earlier service in the army and on the battles fought during the World War II, their political views and connections with the political camp related to th e “…

Comportements migratoires des étudiants et des jeunes diplômés.

2008

Until now, analyses about migrations of young people linked with French higher education seemed to focus only on costs and advantages. Especially students in training and young graduates integrating labour market. They consider strategies of job searching and studies efficiencies. Until now, these analyses about French students' and graduates' migrations didn't take into account geographical dimensions. From now, national databases allow studying regional migrations of both students and graduates. Now, one can answer to questions like: do they migrate the same way? Do regions influence the way they migrate? Main results are explained in three developments. The first one presents main charac…
